Old Rap Vs. New Rap Volume 1

Ok i have been listening to a lot of "old rap" lately...no i dont mean ancient, but i mean rap that came out in the 90s or the early 2000s. I've noticed that in the old stuff lyricism was valued WAY more...in fact thats wat makes a lot of these albums special. I've been listenin to some Raekwon, Nas, Talib Kweli, and some Mos Def too.

Thats all good right...but im reminded of statements made like "HIP HOP is dead" and i think wow, really? Well the answer isnt yes, but getting there.....Rap music has been changing a lot since the year 2000, and thats understandable. I remember when the dirty south seemed to take over the rap scene around like 2003 and 2004. Its not as popular right now as it was then....u kno guys like lil jon, ying yang twins, and David Banner helped fuel this movement. Theres nothin wrong wit that. In fact guys like Ludacris and TI are great dirty south rappers and are great for rap. But the problem is, well i think even with some of the artists the Neptunes worked with(excluding the CLIPSE) have depended on hot beats to sell there singles......

Dont believe me? Consider the rapper J-Kwon. This guy had one of the hottest songs in 2004...TIPSY.....it was a dope record, but the lyrics were basically trash, and 3 to 4 months later, he was forgotten. Im not sure how his album is, i havent listened to it yet. The point is alot of aritsts today are depending on hot beats to fuel there carreeers and thats just wrong. Lyricism is wat makes rap so special. Take an album like ILLMATIC by Nas. Its increidble, every song is good in my opinion and hes spiittin that real stuff effortlessly. WHen i first got the album i liked it, but didnt think it was all that. Hows that? Because i too was a "beat" first guy. Theres nothin wrong wit hot beats tho.

Well let me know wat yall think....I plan to go further with this topic with Volume II

Album Review: Schoolboy Q-Blue Lips

Ok I am a big Schoolboy Q fan. I gotta say I love this album...but believe it or not what kept me from getting it till fall 2024 was that horrendous album artwork lol. I mean damn its gross! Schoolboy has some great flows and lyricism on this album. "Thank god 4 me" is absolute flames. "Blueslides" is another highlight. There's something about the song "first" that is just so catchy to me. "Yern" is also pretty hard man. The guest list is minimal but it works. The production is really good here too. The album isn't quite as good as Blank Face to me but its definitely a major improvement over his last album Crash Talk. Definitely check this one out. Lyrics 24 Beats 23 Depth 23 Tilt 23 Verdict 93

Video Game Review: Jedi Fallen Order

I meant to review this game way back in the day when I first beat it but this is coming after my 2nd play-through. This time I played the game on hard difficulty and man was it tough. Compared to Jedi Survivor I think the game has a better story. You join Jedi padawan Cal Kestis as he escapes a scrapyard planet Bracca , fleeing from the Empire. Cal comes face to face with an Inquistor called 2nd sister. You end up fighting her a total of 4 times in the game.  The main story is Cal must help a former Jedi named Cere and her pilot Greez to find a Jedi holocron that has a list of force sensitive children to rebuild the Jedi Order. I gotta say the planets you visit are all for the most part pretty flushed out . I found Zeffo to be the main planet and navigating it is truly awful. Well I’m glad they made navigation better in Jedi Survivor. Of all the planets Dathomir (Darth Mauls planet) was by far the worst. There was tough enemies around every corner there and hard boss fights w...

Album Review: Clipse- Let God Sort Em Out

Well I didn't rush this review, I've had some time to sit with this album. It's a hell of a comeback album. Pusha T and Malice are deadly as ever on the mic. The album lyrically is intense. Production is pretty good too but I expected slightly more from an album produced entirely by Pharrell Williams. Speaking of Pharrell, he's all over this album...sometimes not just relegated to a hook. The album gets off to a great start with "The Birds Don't Sing" where both brothers talk about their parents who passed. Pusha T raps about his Mom. Malice about his dad. I really liked the vibe of "All Things Considered"; the The-Dream feature is good. That brings me to the features....like a monster one from Kendrick Lamar on "Chains & Whips". Tyler the Creator does well on "P.O.V.". Nas is on the 2nd last track and he does well too. "M.T.B. T. T. F." is fire, and it stands for Mike Tyson Blow to the Face lol. Ultimately its h...
