Chesstown King's Reviews and Thoughts

I guess I've been really hard on what some may call mumble rap in the past. To be honest my preferences as of late 2018 early 2019 have changed a bit. The music isnt really intelligle, but its really easy going. I gotta admit songs of guys like Migos and Travis Scott are really easygoing and fun to listen to. Let's not forget how old heads looked at my era of rap. Yes i'm talking about the early 2000s to early 2010s...aka the bling era. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of guys that grew up with 2pac, Nas, Jay Z, Biggie Smalls, and WU Tang clan that thought my era of rappers were wack. Its just the way things go. In the bling era gangsta rap was really popular, but rappers like Kanye West and Lil Wayne helped transition to the era of rap music we have now. I really dont think this was intentional, but its just what has caught on and become popular. Trap Rap as its called is really easygoing and I'm starting to like it....more. What a time to be a rap fan! Drake is collaborating with…not weezy, but Trap n B juggernaut Future.  The result is mostly good but the songs sound WAY WAY too similar. The two have chemistry, but it almost feels like on most songs, Drake doesn’t want to outshine Future.  My favorite tracks are Big Rings and Jumpman. Lyrically its not all that, but the production is solid. If you’re like me, you had a hard time deciding to give this one a chance. Give it a chance.  It’s good.   Verdict: 8.4/10

Ah another Future album. I don’t have much to say about this album. Future’s still a pretty average singer and rapper. This album doesn’t have the guests that Honest had. However Drake stops by on Where Ya At. The beats are solid, but Future’s bars just aren’t that memorable. Overall though this is a comfortable album for Future. Nothing here seems out of his comfort zone. He’s a popular rapper now, but he needs to come a little better on the next album. The verdict is not as bad as my review indicates...... 7.5/10 lol.  

Well this is the first album I’ve reviewed by Future. He’s not a great rapper or singer, in fact he’s pretty average at both. The first song, Look Ahead, is dope, as is Move that Dope, which is has dope in the name. Honestly getting through this album is a chore. I just got the feeling that Future could do better lyrically. The beats were good though. To be honest, there’s just not a lot of replay value here, despite having a great guest list: Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West, Drake, Pusha T, and Lil Wayne. The verdict, a 6/10 . Poor album, but maybe worth a listen or two.
