Album Review: Tyler the Creator- Don't Tap the Glass

This album grew on me. It’s just Tyler having fun for once after the theme heavy Chromakopia. It’s funny I just did a discography ranking for Tyler cause I didn’t think he was gonna come out with a new album any time soon. This is Tyler’s shortest album thus far at only ten songs. He’s not as lyrical as he’s been on the past couple albums . I really like the title track. It’s just a banger. "Suck Free" is dope too. I do like the different sounds and styles he implores here. "Mommanem" is short but has one of the hottest beats. It was dope to hear him rap with Pharrell Williams on the first song "Big Poe". This album has great production, but I've come to expect that from Tyler's albums. Overall it's good to see him try something new. He's really become one of my favorite rappers ever since 2015. Tyler the Creator, Worst to Best

Goblin (75):  Like many of you this was my introduction to Tyler. The subject matter is truly insane. But yeah I do like some of these songs. The first song is really out there. The last song “Golden”, is so funny man. Overall tho I don’t like this album that much. The successor Wolf did so much better. Top Tracks: Golden, She, Yonkers, Golden. Wolf (85):  This was when I started to kinda like Tyler’s music. Sure the subject matter is still kinda crazy but it’s a little toned down here. These songs kinda bleed into each other for me….I really like “Treehome95” with Erykah Badu….and “Tamale”; Definite highlights. TT: Jamba, Domo23, Tamale, Treehome95, Cowboy, Ifhy. IGOR (91):  Ok im not gonna lie, im not the biggest fan of IGOR. Maybe it has to do with the gay theme lol. The music is pretty damn good tho. “Earfquake” is infectious as hell. That is followed by “I Think” which is another banger. “New Magic Wand” is also great. The production was stand out here. This could go...

Album Review: Tyler the Creator- Chromakopia

This is an album I liked a whole lot from first listen. I just love how personal he is on this album. His mom kinda acts as an unofficial narrator here. The album gets off to a good start with its first 3 tracks. "Noid", the lead single is really creative with its African singing and dope beat. I've just got to say while Tyler as an MC is as good as ever, the beats here are phenomenal. "Sticky" is my favorite song. It features GloRilla, Sexyy Red, & Lil Wayne. "I Killed You" was another highlight. I really enjoyed "Thought I Was Dead" which featured Schoolboy Q and Santigold. Some songs like "Judge Judy" were a little odd....but all in all I liked most every song. Overall its honestly hard to say if this is Tyler's best album....at first I thought it was but then I've given older albums like Call Me If You Get Lost as spin and I don't think this eclipses that.  Lyrics 23 Beats 25 Depth 24 Tilt 23 Verdict 95

Album Review: Tyler the Creator-Call Me If You Get Lost

The latest offering from Tyler the Creator is really really good. In fact, I'd say its tied for his best album ever with Flower Boy. It's narrated loosely by DJ Drama you know "Gangsta Grillz" guy. I really like that Tyler went back to mostly rapping on these songs and the bars are pretty damn strong. The production tho, as usal with Tyler projects is the real star of the show. Songs like "Hot Wind Blows" and "Lemonhead" are definite highlights. "Sweet/I Thought You Wanted to Dance" is a near 10 minute track but its amazing. I love the beat there and the female vocals. His Mom has a skit and its pretty funny too. "Juggernaut" is another dope song. Overall its a very deep album with good replay value too. Not every song is stellar but most are. Tyler is really becoming one of the better current school rappers now along with the likes of Logic, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar. Lyrics 23 Beats 25 Depth 24 Tilt 23 Verdict 95

My Thoughts: Tyler the Creator

I'm a Tyler the Creator fan but I cannot say I always was. When I first heard of him in 2011 I was like who the heck is this guy and why is his music so damn violent. I downloaded Goblin and didn't like most of it. I did like the song "Yonkers" however. It was clear to me that Tyler had some lyrical skill but I wasn't a fan...yet. Then came his 2013 album, Wolf. Wolf seemed like more of the same but it wasn't quite as hardcore and it had more bangers on it like "Tamale" and "Domo23". The album's theme was fairly easy to get to. I found Wolf just more enjoyable than Goblin. Then came 2015's Cherry Bomb album. Cherry Bomb was so smooth and exciting. It was such a different sound. It made me a Tyler fan. Songs like "Smuckers", "Death Camp", and "Find Your Wings" were a breath of fresh air. Apparently he was influenced by Pharrell Williams. Then 2 years later we got Flower Boy, which was just amaz...

Album Review: Tyler the Creator-IGOR

Tyler returns with his 5th LP, IGOR. What the album isn’t is a return to his horrocore roots. It’s actually more of the smooth sound he’s been perfecting since Cherry Bomb.I saw the album title and thought yeh he’s taking it back...and I’m actually glad he didn’t. The album is actually a love story concept this time. We don’t get much rapping from him but we do get some auto tuned singing. Earfquake is just an amazing song. It’s smooth and catchy. That’s kind of how this whole album is. Some other highlights are “I Think” and “New Magic Wand”. Overall this album isn’t as good as his magnum opus, Flower Boy, but it will do till next  time. Album Review: Tyler the Creator- Flower Boy

Tyler has created the most cohesive album of his career…its really damn good! It’s softer sounding than Cherry Bomb….albeit I think lyrically Tyler has never been this poignant. I literally liked pretty much every song. There’s a good amount of guests here too, like Jaden Smith on “Potholes”. “Who Dat Boy” featuring A$AP Rocky is another banger. The Frank Ocean assisted “Where the Flower Blooms” might be the best tho. Ultimately, I really like the direction Tyler has taken his music since Wolf. This is a great f***ing album. Verdict: 9.5/10

Album Review: Tyler's Cherry Bomb

Tyler’s 4 th solo work(3 rd actual album) is really good. Its not a bunch of horrocore like his last albums have been(Even though Wolf wasn’t heavy with it.) The first track, Deathcamp, sounds like a Neptune track. It kind of sets the tone for the album. Yes it sounds a bit odd, but the production is some of the best I’ve heard on any album. The lyrics are good across the album, but some songs, like CherryBomb, have toned down lyrics, as in you can’t really hear Tyler as he throws a temper tantrum lol. Anyway the album also features Kanye and Lil Wayne on the song Smuckers. It’s a nice surprise. Tyler has matured(at least I think he has) and made the best album of his career. The verdict is a 9.25/10

Tyler the Creator's Wolf review

After just two years we have another album from Tyler. This one isn’t as crazy and dark as Goblin, but its far more entertaining and cohesive. Lyrically Tyler has stepped it up as well. There are some songs that hint at madness in the album’s 2 nd half but for the most part I enjoyed this album. There aren’t any really long, somewhat boring songs up here either. The future looks bright for Tyler. I would have liked to hear more of that “Therapist guy” on the album but hey it’s a good album! Domo23, Jamba, Tamale, Ifhy, and Cowboy are some stand out songs.   Hmm Ima give this album 8.5/10. Great sequel.......Trashwang, WOFL HAILEY! lol
