Album Review: Jay-z Blueprint 2 The Gift and the Curse

Verdict: 8.2/10 Okay so Jay-z double album is actually very good. Perhaps I just have held Jigga to such crazy standards, or maybe this album is just in Blueprint 1’s shadow….well both of those are likely true. Like with Nas’s Street’s Disciple there is FILLER. The first disc, the GIFT part is probably the better disc. It’s got 03’ Bonnie & Clyde and Excuse Me Miss on it. Also there is a part 2 to Dr. Dre’s The Watcher song.   Disc 2, the CURSE, also has some bangers on it like Guns & Roses and U Don’t Know Remix. The album features really good production, but the lyrics are noticebally a couple steps down from Jay-z’s near flawless standards. They aren’t bad but you get the picture. There’s a huge guest list including Beyoncé, Scarface, Lenny Kravitz, MOP, Sean Paul, Big Boi, Twista, Faith Evans, and Dr. Dre. Overall it’s a decent album with depth issues, and a good Blueprint behind an excellent one, and before BP3, a great one…

Album Review: Nas Streets' Disciple

Nas’s double album is actually a tad bit better than Jay-z’s but who’s comparing right? Like the Blueprint 2, Street’s Disciple has a LOT OF FILLER. However the lyrics are really good throughout. The 1 st disc is the more preachy, making a point Nas. It has some major highlights like Nazareth Savage, You Know My Style, and Just a Moment. Some songs are so boring tho they are skippable. The 2 nd disc has some serious bangers on it like the album title track, Bridging the Gap, Virgo, and The Makings of a Perfect Bitch. The production isn’t bad either.Overall it’s a good album, but it would be even better minus some filler here and there. Verdict: 8.2/10

Album Review: Eminem Relapse

The Verdict is.....a 8.9/10...I cant believe I forgot to blog about this lol Slim shady returns after a 5 year hiatus. Relapse is good, but it deserves most of the criticism it got. I’ll start with the bad. He raps like a serial killer too much. And it feels forced and out of place. The weak songs are kind of boring and there are similar, better songs on this album. This album has mostly good songs on it, like Insane, which is a good description, and BfB has some nasty disses towards Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon. Hello is a fun up-tempo song. We Made You is a great song, full of fun metaphors. Underground is a maddening masterpiece. Déjà vu is great, but Beautiful is the best song, and kind of sets the bar for his next album. Overall I felt he was trying too hard to recreate the Slimshady LP, he partly succeeded but this album isn’t as creative as that one.

Album Review: Big Pun Capital Punishment

Big Punisher will forever go down as one of the most talented rappers ever. This album just has a lot going for it. It has one of my favorite songs Still Not A Player with Joe. The song is incredible…the other song I’m Not A Player isn’t bad either. Basically we have a bunch of gritty songs with Pun just lyrically destroying every track. Lyrically he commands a lot of attention. The weakest part of the album was the beats which are quite good, but not really comparable to Pun’s lyricism. Overall this album is really good, and I liked the skits too. The Verdict, I love the album, but its a little long...9.6/10

Album Review: K. Michelle- More Issues Than Vogue

Verdict: 9.7/10 K Michelle returns with another stellar album. She’s quickly becoming a favorite R&B songstress of mine. Shes got a powerful voice, and she even raps on the intro here. There’s more of a guest list this time featuring Jason Derulo on one song and Trina and Yo Gotti on another. The production is better this time around, but it’s not quite as deep an album, and its really almost not noticeable. Check this one out!

Album Review: Kendrick Lamar Untitled Unmastered

The latest work from Kdot is pretty good, if not really up to his incredible standards. Lyrically its very solid. The beats are pretty good also. The first song starts out oddly but immediately talks about the end of the world. The 2 nd song is also pretty interesting. I absolutely love the 3 rd  and 5 th tracks too. This isn’t really an extremely cohesive album as the songs are just bonus cuts. It’s damn good tho. I liked most every song. I prefer TPAB but this will do till his next full length LP. The Verdict: 9.2/10.

My Thoughts- Kobe Bryant's Career & Legacy

As you know, this was my favorite player’s last year in the NBA. I’m talking about Kobe Bryant of course. I’ve seen Kobe’s career from its early success winning 3 titles with Shaq (another favorite player of mine) to the lows of barely making the playoffs, to winning 2 more titles, and now the swan song seasons.                 It’s obvious Kobe wanted to be like Michael Jordan, I mean a lot of players did. How many actually did it though? Same height, similar games…Kobe got it done! I’ve seen him hit so many big shots. I felt really bad for him after the 2008 finals blowout loss in the finals to the Celtics. After that I kinda became a Lakers fan…                 The league just won’t be the same without the black mamba. And how fitting of a knickname for Kobe. A black mamba is perhaps the deadliest snake in the world….get it? Kids growing up today may not get it, but I get how great Kobe is and how incredible of a NBA Superstar and celebrity he is. He is a 5 time

My Current Favorite Rappers Today Vol. 1 Part 2

Honorable mentions: Big Boi,, Common, Talib Kweli, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Tyler The Creator 10) Jay-z –Jigga isn’t in my top 5 anymore, but of course he makes the top 10. What more can I say…about him. He’s an incredible all around rapper, but he needs to drop another album soon. BA-The Blueprint 9) Nas-This may be shocking…but yes I’m feeling Nas more than Jay these days. The incredible lyricism and story telling are to contribute to that. BA-Illmatic 8)T.I.-TIP Harris is a dope dirty south rapper, and has stayed relevant to me.  He’s been pretty consistent these days too. Paper Work was a damn good album. BA-Paper Trail 7)Eminem-The great white rapper has fallen back a bit, but he’s still arguably the best rapper alive. I can’t wait for his next album! BA-Marshall Mathers LP 6)Lupe Fiasco-Lupe has long been a favorite rapper of mine. He’s a terrific lyricist and shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. BA-Testuo & Youth 5) J.Cole-I didn’t

Video Game Review: Final Fantasy X

I just beat this game for the (i think) 4th time. It is masterful. I'm not going to go through the main points to it and give a score at the end of this review FFX is a Role Playing Game(RPG For short). It's easily my favorite final fantasy game. The HD Version came out in 2014 for PS3 and PS Vita and i bought both versions. I actually have the ps4 version which includes FFX-2 which i will play at a later date. Whats really cool is you can cross save your game date no matter which of the 3 systems you play on. Thats a really nice feature. I actually started on PS3, played most on PSVIta, played some on PS4, and finsished on PSVIta. Okay as for the game, it looks terrific. THe game is cinematic with terrific characters. The heroes are relatable, and the villains are interesting. I'm not going through the story in this blog post, but I have to say it's one of gaming best to date. It is the game that got me into the series(And sadly the only FF i've beaten so

My Current Favorite Rappers Today Vol. 1

20) Big K.R.I.T.-Starting the list is Big K.R.I.T. I really loved his Cadalatica album, but the other albums/mixtapes are good as well. He’s also a dope producer Best Album-Cadalatica                         19) Big Sean-Big Sean has become a favorite rapper of mine. He’s got a choppy flow, but lots of charisma. BA-Dark Sky Paradise 18) Logic-Logic is a real dope lyricist. He just has this buttery smooth flow that I love. He reminds me of a 90s rapper. BA-Under Pressure 17)Ludacris-The mouf of the south was once my favorite rapper. He’s a dope punchline rapper but he’s fallen from the top 15 or 5 for that matter. BA-Word of Mouf 16)2pac-Tupac is an all time great for sure. I’ve been listenin to him more than I used to. I dotn listen to Biggie as much at this point. Pac had it all man, and could excel on any type of song. BA-Me Against the World 15) Jeezy-Jeezy is a dope dirty south rapper. I feel he’s lost a lot of popularity but not wit

Album Review: Ice Cube- Ammerika's Most Wanted

Ice Cube’s debut album stands as perhaps the best West coast rap album ever…and one of the best rap albums all time easily. Lyrically cube is incredible. He has a strong delivery and a nice flow. The beats are really catchy, and simple….the album is just great from front to back, and I really liked it after just one listen. This album has really relevant topics, makin it a classic without debate. This is the album in the movie Straight Outta Compton that made NWA know they messed up letting Cube go lol. The verdict is a 10/10 what else would it be muchucka?

Album Review: The Dream-Love Hate

An excellent debut album from an excellent songwriter. His lyrics and singing are top notch. The hooks are great here. The production isn’t so dope tho, but its good. The songs seem to blend together in a masterful way. The guest list is short: just Fabolous and Rihanna. The album loses some steam after the halfway point, but Ditch That and Livin a Lie are great songs. I originally rated this album a lot lower but nope, radio killa! The Verdict is a 9.5/10. AH AH AH AH! lol
