Rap Expo Part 4: 50 Rappers

Welcome to the final part of the RAP EXPO. I'm just going to run down some rappers new and old. They're in alphabetical order....Enjoy. ·          2 Chainz (Non Lyrical Hit-Maker)- Style-Dirty South, Affliated with G.O.O. D. Music.A rapper who relies on delivery over lyricism. He isnt very lyrical at all, but he spits a good verse every now and then. Grade C+ ·          2pac (Versatile Rap Legend)- Style-Westside, Affiliated with Dr. Dre, Death Row. Tupac\ Shakur is arguably the best rapper of all time. He was very prolific when he was alive, recording lots and lots of music. He was very versatile, able to make any kind of rap song effectively. California Love is still one of my favorite rap songs. Grade A+ ·          50 Cent (Certified Hit Maker)- Style-East Coast, Aff-G-Unit. 50 is one of favorite rappers for a few reasons. He's a good lyricist, and seems to do really well with hooks. Even though his Animal Ambition albu was forgettable Fif is still a force in

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album

Rap Expo Part 3-The Labels

·          Bad Boy: Puff Daddy/Diddy- Our first group on the expo is Bad Boy. A dominant rap label...plain and simply is cursed. It started out with the Notorious BIG's murder. After that it just went slowly downhill. Sure Diddy went solo for a while, and he's recruited lots of talent like Ma$e, Da Band, Loon, G Dep, Craig Mack, and MGK....but ultimately no Bad Boy Artist after Biggie Smalls has been that successful. Overall i feel Bad Boy has been rather trend setting however. B ·          Roc Nation/Rocafella Records: Jay-z- Jay-z's Rocafella Records enjoyed a good deal of success with rappers like Freeway, Beanie Siegel, and later Kanye West and J.Cole. Jay-z remained the main act here, despite the other rappers having success. J.Cole is the future of Rap, well hell, his time is now. I'll talk more about Kanye when i get to his label further down. B+ ·          Shady Aftermath: Dr. Dre  & Eminem- This is a difficult label to judge. Like Bad Boy Records, Af

Rap Expo Part 2: The Groups

·          G-Unit- 50 Cent and company were once a dominant force in rap. The group released their first album Beg For Mercy in 2003. It was a pretty good album. Their 2nd album Terminate on Sight, wasnt as good. In fact it was terrible. Solo wise, just about every member of G-Unit has found alot of success. Right now however, it seems now that their not on Shady Aftermath anymore, the group is a thing of the past. B+ ·          Wu-Tang Clan- I'm not a huge Wu-Tang fan, but i really like Ghostface Killah and Raekwon. They are great lyricist that are still relevant today. Wu Tang's latest album wasnt all that great(I heard) but its hard to say that the group is done....I'm not saying it. Their body of work in the past was very impressive such as their first album 36 Chambers. B ·          Slaughterhouse- Royce Da 5'9, Joel Ortiz, Crooked I, and Joe Budden are known as a rap supergroup. Their first 2 albums were very good. Their most recent mixtape wasnt bad...but

Rap Expo Part 1: The Duos

·Welcome to the Rap Expo! I will be presenting Rap Duos, Groups, and Labels. I hope u enjoy it.     The Throne: Jay-z and Kanye West -The two rap superpowers joined forces in 2011 and released Watch the Throne. Its a pretty good album. These 2 are my favorite solo rappers(top 5) but WTT wasn't as good as it could have been. Where is the 2nd album?? B- ·          Blackstar: Mos Def and Talib Kweili- These 2 conscious rappers have incredible storytelling ability. They haven't been too successful commericially, but the skill is certainly there. These 2 released a self titled album called Blackstar in 1998. I'd love for them to collaborate again. C ·          Bad Meets Evil:Eminem & Royce Da 5'9- Interesting enough, these two made a song way back on Eminem's 1st official album The Slimshady LP. The "sequel" finally came out in 2011, which was a whole album and  it was decent. This may be the most lyrical of any rap duo. The two have incredib

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

For this blog, i thought i'd do something personal. No names of any women are here, but I get into depth. This is based off my real life relationships. The Good We met and it was magic. I loved everything about you We talked on the phone for hours We thought we'd be together for ever but now all Great things must come to an end. The Bad We started out as friends Then we made it more We got off to a good start But we just never spent the time And one night I messed up And u ended it it.... The Ugly We started off shakey You never listened Or cared about me Things got worse and worse but you wouldnt let me go So I Had to end it....
