Video Game Review: Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

I haven't done a video game review in a while...and trust me I had a ton of video game reviews I planned to do. Hey here we are at a review of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. I gotta admit this game was WAY better than I expected. Lets get into it. In this game you start surprisingly as Link (as every other game in the series)....and you fight Ganon right away at full hearts etc. Its pretty exciting...but after that Link falls into a portal and you find yourself playing as Zelda. Zelda goes to the castle only to see her father, the king fall into a rift (portal) and then imposters come out. After that Zelda gets blamed for the rifts and is thrown in jail.  I'll try to minimize spoilers but you get help from a little yellow fairy thing called Tri. Tri can make copies or echoes of objects or enemies. Its so helpful and unique. While watching other play this game on twitch I'd be like "wow I didn't solve the puzzle like that..." or "wow I didnt beat the enemy that ...

Video Game Review: Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD

So I beat this game earlier this year and man I loved it. I had barely played the original for Wii so it was very much like a fresh playthrough. The story was very much a strongpoint for this game. I won't go through it for this review however. Instead I'll focus on gameplay and dungeons etc. For my playthrough I played with button controls which even that took some getting used to. I would use motion controls to aim certain projectiles like the slingshot and bow. However with the sword I would flick the right stick in a certain direction. There's a little bit of lag with that but you get used to it. Of course when I was fighting the first boss it was a nightmare as most of my attacks he would block as I wasnt very good yet. Flying your bird is pretty fun too. Besides one airborne boss I didnt really have any issues with that. This is a classic Zelda game in every sense of the word which is very diffrent from Breath of the Wild. And for the most part I really enjoyed this...

Video Game Review: Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity

I just beat this great game. It's basically a Warriors game like Dynasty Warriors which I love. This game is a bit more involved than the first Hyrule Warriors however. I really like how they incorporated Breath of the Wild's Sheikah Slate abilities into combat. Those being Magnesis, Cryonis, Stasis, and Bomb. When you fight tough enemies you'll see a symbol above them briefly which tells you which to use on them. It takes a while to get used to but I really like the depth it provides. The story shows us the events that led up to the Great Calamity as noted in Breath of the Wild. I'd like to avoid spoilers here as its really nice to play through but lets just say you change history in your attempt to defeat the forces of Calamity Ganon. There's lots of playable characters and they do feel pretty different from one another. Most times you can just play as Link but I found Zelda to be a great character after she awakens her sealing power. I also didnt mention you can ...

Video Game Review: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening Remake

A few months ago I beat Zelda Link's Awakening for Nintendo Switch. I hadn't really played much of the gameboy game so this was a fresh Zelda game experience for me. The game takes place outside of Hyrule, on Kohilint island. The game has nice characters and even enemies from Mario like Goombas and Thwomps.  I love that the sword and shield were put to automatic weapons not item slots in the original. I found the overflow of the game to be really fun. You end up doing something then you get a key to one of the game's  eight dungeons. They had good puzzles too. The last 2 dungeons would of had me stumped for a long time if I didn't use a guide. I haven't talked about the graphics. They are quite charming. Link is like a kid and he's pretty funny when he falls down a pit and hollers. The Graphical style of the game was really nice. I wouldn't mind seeing Oracle of Ages Oracle of Seasons done in this style. The final boss fight was really tough but I managed t...

Video Game Review: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

I finally was able to beat this stellar Zelda game not too long ago. The game is very challenging yet oh so satisfying when you overcome powerful enemies. The game looked great. There was so much variety in the environments. Unfortunately there's not much variation in the music. You usually just here a minimalist piano track as you travel. I recommend you tackle as many shrines as possible. The puzzles aren't typically too tough but there were a few I had to look online to solve. They are some very creative puzzles to solve. Some puzzles simply test your strength by making you fight a robotic enemy. Speaking of enemies, this game doesn't have a lot but there are stronger/different versions of them. Of all of them perhaps Guardians and Lynels are to be the most feared. The latter feels like boss battles. Guardians can shoot you to death with lasers but with Ancient arrows you can make short work of them. Of course when you beat an enemy you can take their weapons and...

Open World Games: Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda Breath of the Wild

I realize the lateness of this post. But I really want to bring to the attention  the greatness of these 2 videos games.I havent beaten either game yet to date but the reason for that is well....just complicated. Life has gotten in the way.  I got Horizon Zero Dawn about 2 years ago. Its a beautiful game with lots of really cool locations. The fighting system is really dope too. A little 2 dimensional but basically divided between a wide assortment of ranged weapons and your spear. The way the main character interacts with environment is really dope too. There's not a lot Alloy can't do. Alloy's adversaries are tough and varied. I got Zelda Breath of the Wild just last year. The world is really really big. I just love the way the game seems to have so many ways to be played. Its a truly non linear experience. Link has lots of combat options too. I don't really like the way your weapons break and you have to go get new weapons...I've gotten used to it...

Video Game Review: A Link to the Past

Zelda A Link to the Past was one of the first games in the illustrious series. I recently beat it again today (with 113 Deaths). It's a very very challenging game. You basically just move around and slash with your sword and use items. The game is simple...on the surface. It actually takes place after Ocarina of Time, but ironically it's the game blueprint for Ocarina. The game starts out pretty slowly. You help your Uncle who gets really sick/injured take his sword and head out to rescue Princess Zelda from the clutches of the evil Aganahim. *Spoiler Alert* the evil wizard is none other than Ganon the demon king himself....You eventually go to 3 dungeons to get 3 pendants to unlock the evil destroying blade, the master sword. After that you head to the dark world to free the seven sages...(Although this isn't your first time in the dark world.) The game then gets a lot tougher. Enemies do more damage, and take more. It's not until you temper the master sword to Lv...

Video Game Review: Zelda Majora's Mask 3D

Zelda Majora's Mask....was one of my least favorite Zelda's when i played it on N64 over 10 years ago. However maybe that's just because I rage quitted on the final boss and never beat it.  However after playing this new version, for the 3ds, I gotta say its one of my favorites. This Majora features Young Link only, but he still rides Epona and still has sweet items like the Bow and Hookshot. You also get Masks which allow you to transform into a Deku, Goron, and Zora. This adds whole new gameplay mechanics. Deku Link flies, Goron Link Rolls, and Zora Link swims. Yes Masks are the lure of the game as there are plenty to collect and many do diffrent things..like the bunny hood which makes Link run faster. The game is like Ocarina of Time only in presentation and controls. The game has 4 main dungeons, and since you have to keep going back in time with the Song of Time before the 3 day time limit, there's an opportunity to redo old dungeons and events related to...

VG Blog: Ode to Ocarina of Time

I am writing this to show my respects to what I think is the best(not greatest) game I have ever played. The original was released in 1998. The game just has everything a good game should have. There's an excellent story, Great Controls, Terriffic Enemies and Engaging Boss Fights. The graphics were also impressive for that time....the only thing I dont really like is the fact is that the game is mostly linear, but there are some side quests. The game starts off pretty easy, in fact on subsequent playthroughs I could breeze right threw the first 2 dungeons and their bosses. Gohma is pretty easy, and the KIng Dodongo is even easier if you know where to stand. The 3rd dungeon, Jabu Jabu's Belly will give you fits unless you know exactly what to do. I think i was stuck on one part for weeks. More than any other dungeon in the game do i think the new item you get is so effective. Without it you will struggle. The boss is really tough too, but if your quick you can take h...
