Could Ne-Yo hit the ball out of the park again in 2007? Well yeah he did. The album isn’t as good as In My Own Words, but few albums are. The first song, the title track, is actually the best here. The next 2, “Crazy” and “Can We Chill” are good but more standard Ne-Yo songs. “Do You” follows the tale of the girl we were introduced to on “So Sick” form his first album. It’s truly a great song. His singing and song writing didn’t take any steps back here. I really like “Angel”, “Sex With My Ex”, and “Go on Girl” too. I wasn’t really feeling “Leaving Tonight” tho. Great album. Verdict: 9.1

Hey guys i'm back with another entry in the My Thoughts series.....this time I'm talking about Shaffer Smith aka Ne-Yo. This addition of MT will be a little different from past artists entries format wise. Ne-Yo actually got his start as a songwriter. He wrote Beyonce's Irreplaceable and Rihanna's Unfaithful. Those are some terrific songs, but lets be clear, he's a great artist in his own right. I think it was 2006 and i was watching BET. I saw the video for his song Stay. I thought it was pretty good, but it wasnt until i got his debut album that i knew this dude was the next big singer in R&B. I listened to the album in late summer 06. I thought it was terrific. It wasn't really until i got to college my freshman year that I realized this dude's career had taken off. Question: Is Ne-Yo the best male R&B singer right now, or has he ever been?? Ne-yo’s first is his best. Ne-Yo shows off his greatest talent here, his songwriting…but don’t get it twisted, he’s a great singer also. I like every song here but not all of them are outstanding. The singles are great, especially Sexy Love and So Sick. Time is a very sad song. There’s a remix of Get Down Like That featuring Ghostface Killah. It Just Ain’t Right is another banger. The production is great here also. Ne-Yo’s sound has changed from this, but I wouldn’t call it a natural progression. In 2015-16 he’s just doing different things. In 2006 however, he was the real deal. The Verdict is a 9.7/10

Ne-yo is back after a solid outing. Some didn’t like R.E.D., but this album is an improvement, albeit a small one. Ne-Yo does well here lyrically, but that’s like standard Ne-Yo. I really liked most of the songs, even if some didn’t really stand out that much. The album is really smooth, but sometimes it doesn’t flow all that well. The Schoolboy Q featured, Run, is a good example of that. That song is still good though. The lead singles are great with Jeezy on Money Can’t Buy, and Juicy J on She Knows. The latter is arguably the best song here, however, the Pitbull assisted Time of Our Life is dope. The beats are varied here as well. The bonus tracks are also really good. I like the fact that Ne-Yo tells a story here throughout the album. That focus was missing on R.E.D. Like rapper Jeezy, Ne-Yo makes hits easily, but going forward, the albums may not be as interesting as earlier bodies of work. The verdict: 9/10

Ne-yo burst on the scene in 2006 and he quickly became one of my favorite R&B artists. He is an excellent songwriter also as is evident on his albums. In My Own Words- Ne-Yo’s debut album is arguably his best. This album has some really great songs on it like So Sick, When You’re Mad, Stay, and the sorrowful Time. Sexy Love is my favorite song here. It has a hot beat and a terrific chorus. Get Down Like That is another interesting song. The album also includes the remix to that song. After hearing this album there was no doubt that Usher had some competition from the “one” of R&B, Ne-Yo. A Because of You- The R&B crooner avoided the sophomore slump even though this album isn’t as good as his debut. You essentially have an album well rounded album here. I don’t like every song but that’s rare for an album anyway. The album has some nice beats, but most impressive is Ne-Yo’s lyrical execution. The latest Ne-yo album is a really good one. The songs are very cohesive. It kinda seems like this is similar to Libra Scale, but its excuted better. The album’s opener, Cracks in Mr. Perfect is interesting as Ne-yo gets very introspective. The album does feel a tad bit long at over 17 tracks. There are different styles that Ne-Yo has like Pop and even a country sounding song with Tim McGraw. Overall this is a win for him. I'll give it a 9/10
