NBA to Rap Volume One

So who do u think your favorite rapper is if they were an NBA player?? I am looking more at style and impact on the game then personality of a nba player or rapper. These are my opinions, that don’t make it fact.

1)      Michael Jordan = 2pac: Theres no denying that it was 2pac that did more for rap then any other rapper, likewise wit MJ to basketball. There’s no denying that they were also the best overall.  MJ did it all. His competitive spirit got him 6 count em 6 championships! 2pac could do it all, from Conscious Rap(Brenda’s got a baby) to beef tracks(Hit Em Up), and songs for the ladies(How do U Want it). This wasn’t an easy choice, but I think the best rapper is MJ of the game.

2)      Bill Russell = Jay-z: Bill Russell has lots of championships…and Jay is a dominant force in the rap game. His albums sell a lot, and he’s got hits…too many to fit in one little paragraph. Ultimately Jay has the most impressive, successful discography, and Bill had 11 titles. Bill Russell is arguably the best Center to ever play, but I’m not sure about that.

3)      Kobe Bryant = Nas: Kobe is the next best thing to Jordan, and Nas is an incredibly versatile rapper, who is comparable in talent only to the late Pac. Both show no signs of slowing down, despite periods of “fall offs”. When it comes to preaching on a song, and making you think about the world, Nas is 2nd to none. I have heard that Kobe is a better jump shooter than MJ, but I’m not sure about that.

4)      Lebron James = Lil Wayne: Lebron isn’t the best player yet, even if he is the MVP. Like James, Weezy has yet to uncover his true potential, but u cant deny with great albums like the Carter II and III he is getting there. Lebron could be the greatest with his unreal talent, but all im sayin is he has yet to get much done…2 MVPs ain’t cutting it.

5)      Karl Malone = The Notorious B.I.G.: While you might not agree, the 2’s careers are very similar. Mr. Malone had 2 great final appearances against his “rival” the great MJ. Biggie had 2 excellent albums…with the first being hailed a classic. Both were incredibly dominant, and skilled, and tough.

6)      Shaquille O’Neal = 50 Cent: This was a no brainer. 50 and shaq have had successful runs…but they’re status or abilities have diminished. In their primes, u could only hope they mess up, cause they could not and would not be stopped.

7)      Magic Johnson= Snoop Dogg: Its pretty hard to match these 2…but not if u know about them. Magic is a good scorer, but he passes first or he chose when to pass. Snoop is the same way. Uncle snoop is on everybody’s albums in the 2000s and up till now. Snoop can help ya career out. The only thing is Snoop doesn’t really have as many great albums/championships that Magic has.

8)      Larry Bird = Eminem: Another no brainer. Larry legend is the best white bball player, with maybe only Jerry West in the conversation. Larry could do it all, he could steal, pass, and most importantly shoot the lights out. Its even possible that Larry was the best shooter all around, as it is that Em has qualities about him that no rapper can match…..Inconsistency late in their careers is an issue though.

9)      Vince Carter = Fabolous: Vibe magazine actually paired these 2 up, and I agree. The 2 are really very similar. Fab is a dangerous lyricist, but he has been inconsistent in his career. Vince is a beast, and at times can be as good as Kobe, or TMAC, well at least on the offensive end. The defense sucks though…Fab has been criticized for being a little too corny or lackluster sometimes.

10)  Tracy McGrady= Common: This was actually a hard matchinig. I had to think what rapper started off as good as say, Nas, and then fell off? Then I thought about Common. We all know in the early to mid 2000s Tracy was as good as Kobe. What happened? Kobe got better, and Tmac’s skills declined…..Common has really fallen off also, as UMC album shows.

Nas Albums Worst to Best

20)      Nastradamus (75)- It really shouldn’t be a surprise to see this one ranked so low. The lyricism isn’t abysmal but everything is pretty average. How does a song like “Big Girl” make it to a Nas album?? It’s just a boring album plain and simple….I don’t really have a lot to say about it. 19)          Street’s Disciple (82) -I hate having this one so low. I honestly like a lot of the songs on this double disc. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of filler here just like with Jay-z’s Blueprint 2. Disc one has hits like “Nazareth Savage”, “American Way”, “ Just a Moment” and “ You Know My Style”. Disc 2 has some heat on it too: “Suicide Bounce”, the title track, “Virgo”, “Bridging the Gap” and “Thiefs Theme”.   18) T he Lost Tapes 2 (86) -This one I admit I haven’t heard that much…but its pretty decent. It gets off to a good start with songs like “Vernon Family” and “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack)”. A lot of these songs are ok….but not muc...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album
