This is sort of a My Thoughts. I'm going to be talking about one of my favorite rap groups. 50 Cent's G-Unit.
I have already made a blog about 50 Cent....but I will comparing their albums and styles here. It's a shame that one of rap's great groups couldn't function or stay together......
G-Unit Members
50 Cent
Lloyd Banks
Tony Yayo
Young Buck
The Game
Well 50 Cent is the leader of G-Unit. He has four albums now, but i will focus on his first 2 albums, Get Rich or Die Tryin...and The Massacre. His first album was hyped up alot, and for me, it met the hype. 50's lyrics and the production from Dr. Dre was incredible. I'd have to give the album about 9.5/10.
Later(not too much later) G-Unit's first group album came out. It was hyped up...as it came out the same day as Jay-z's excellent Black Album. Unfortunately for some reason this album, Beg For Mercy, was only average.....There were some stand out songs but it was nothing special.
After a very successful 2003, It was time for the rest of the Unit to release albums. By now, they had picked up a West Coast rapper called The Game. To be honest at the time (2004) I didnt like The Game that much. He didnt impress me at all. Its ironic cause he's one of my favorite rappers to date. Anyways Lloyd Banks and Young Buck came with solo albums and they were both great. They both had 50 Cent on more than one track. It was like G-Unit had found the secret to having successful rap albums...
They followed the blueprint that 50 followed. Hot club song or 2..or 3. A song for the ladies lol, and great beats. Lloyd Banks debut was a little bit better than Buck's but not by much. I'd give Banks 9.25 and Buck a 9/10. So 2004 came and went.
2005 was to be...The Game's year. 50 dropped an album as well as would Tony Yayo. I'll address Yayo's album(which i didnt buy.) It just wasnt good despite a big guest list. Ok ok i did like the singles on that album. Game's album was heavily produced. It was the best rap album.....(Unless you consider Kanye's Late Registration).
Well i think 50 became jealous due to the fact that The Documentary was better than the Massacre. Game would leave the G-Unit camp. G-Unit would continue to make albums, but none would match the quality of their debut albums.....The last G-Unit cd...Terminate on SIght was horrible.
I dont think the G-Unit can get back together but who knows.
