From Worst to Best: The Game

Arguably the best rapper of our generation from the West Coast...lets look at this discography ranked! I'm not including O.K.E., Streets of Compton, or Block Wars.....

9)
Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf (83)- It really shouldn’t surprise you that this is Game’s weakest album. Sure, it’s a collaborative album but there is enough Game present here to save it. There are some strong tracks here and there like “Really” which features T.I., 2 Chainz, Soulja Boy, and Yo Gotti. There’s just too much filler. Top Tracks: F.U.N., The Purge, Really, Bigger than Me, Black on Black.

8)
Jesus Piece (89)- JP is an underrated album. Sure his lyricism isn’t as good as on the RED Album, but this one has some serious bangers on it. However, there’s just too many guests. The production is good also. I think this album’s biggest flaw is it doesn’t seem to have a story behind it like ….every other Game album. The theme is very loose as well. TT: Ali Bomaye, See No Evil, Pray, Church.

7)
L.A.X. (93)-This was one of  my favorite Game albums for a long time. I don’t think it’s aged as well as his first 2 albums. The album does not have that many west coast sounding beats. However Game’s lyricism is very sound here. There’s a lot of features but whatever. The lead single “Game’s Pain” is dope, as is “Money”. “State of Emergency” with Ice Cube is awesome. I’d pretty much say every feature is good…except DMX…smh. Top Tracks: My Life, State of Emergency, House of Pain, Game’s Pain, Dope Boys, Angel.

6)
The Red Album (94)-This and LAX are almost equal, but this one is constructed just a tad bit better and yeah , also has a ton of features. The first song is one of his best, and it features a relatively unknown rapper at the time, Kendrick Lamar. The album has some really creative songs on it, but there’s also some filler near the back. “Paramedics” featuring Young Jeezy might be my favorite track. At the time this was Game’s best performance lyrically. “California Dream” isn’t one of the best songs but it’s touching. TT: The City, Martian vs Goblins, Paramedics, Speakers on Blast, Good Girs Go Bad, Red Nation.

5)
Doctor’s Advocate (95)-Believe it or not I had this album ranked below LAX a while ago. It has really grown on me. The album has very few flaws: production or lyrics. It’s kind of top heavy which keeps it below the next albums. DA was his attempt to make a great album right after leaving G-Unit. And he did just that. The lead single “It’s Okay(One Blood)” is kind of like him getting a lot off his chest while making a hit song at the same time. I really like “Wouldn’t Get Far” with Kanye West too. Top Tracks: Da S***, It’s Okay, Too Much, Let’s Ride, Wouldn’t Get Far.

4)
1992(96)-Game’s most recent album is really good. He’s very very introspective on most songs here. He’s not really a rapper that has struggled with telling stories. “92 Bars” feels a little out of place but its still a great track. “Bompton”, “The Juice”, and “True Colors/It’s On” are my favorite songs here. To be able to make an album this good after making back to back classics is impressive. TT: Savage Lifestyle, 92 Bars, Bompton, True Colors, However Do You Want It, The Juice.

3)
The Documentary (96)-This is his only G-Unit album and this is better than Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ imo. The production is incredible. I mean he’s rapping on Dr. Dre beats…and Timbaland beats. His lyricism hadn’t fully developed yet tho. There are some heavy hitting songs here…..and spoiler alert all the top albums are documentaries. I felt his first album, while flawed, was a tad bit better than 1992. Top Tracks: Dreams, How We Do, Hate it Or Love it, We Ain’t, Like Father Like Son, The Documentary.

2)
The Documentary 2 (99)-I’m counting this as a separate project from 2.5. Game sounds really rejuvenated as he tries and does make an album better than the first Documentary. The album has various sounds on it. He twists like Kendrick on “On  Me”. He raps like Biggie Smalls on “Standin on Ferraris”. It has a lot of guest spots and they are all pretty well used, even if some are very minimal. Game’s lyrics are top notch, and the production is also terrific. TT: 100, The Documentary 2, Mula, Step Up, On Me, Dollar and a Dream, Summertime, Dedicated.

1)
The Documentary 2.5 (100)-You knew this would be at least top 2. Game really paints a picture on some of these songs, it’s the definitive Game album. Despite some unenjoyable skits, it’s a masterpiece. He’s got the other half of Black Hippy on “Gang Bang Anyway” and he does a salute to Tupac on “Last Time You Seen”. “The Ghetto” featuring Nas might be the best song however. Even the posse cut song is good. “Like Father Like Son 2” isn’t quite as good as the original. Overall, it’s a tremendous listen with great lyrics, beats, and well executed conecepts. Top Tracks: The Ghetto, Crenshaw, Up On the Wall, Quicks Groove, Gang Bang Anyway, Last Time You Seen, From Adam.

Nas Albums Worst to Best

20)      Nastradamus (75)- It really shouldn’t be a surprise to see this one ranked so low. The lyricism isn’t abysmal but everything is pretty average. How does a song like “Big Girl” make it to a Nas album?? It’s just a boring album plain and simple….I don’t really have a lot to say about it. 19)          Street’s Disciple (82) -I hate having this one so low. I honestly like a lot of the songs on this double disc. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of filler here just like with Jay-z’s Blueprint 2. Disc one has hits like “Nazareth Savage”, “American Way”, “ Just a Moment” and “ You Know My Style”. Disc 2 has some heat on it too: “Suicide Bounce”, the title track, “Virgo”, “Bridging the Gap” and “Thiefs Theme”.   18) T he Lost Tapes 2 (86) -This one I admit I haven’t heard that much…but its pretty decent. It gets off to a good start with songs like “Vernon Family” and “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack)”. A lot of these songs are ok….but not muc...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album
