Best Rapper Ever Tournament Round 1 (Bracket B)

Seed 1)Jay Z vs. Seed 8)Jadakiss
Flow: Both are great flowers but I feel Jigga gets the nod here. (10,0)
Creativity: Tie. While Jay Z is great, Jada’s music is equally as creative. i.e. Neither rapper is extremely creative actually. (15,5)
Storytelling: Hmm. Its another tie. I feel Jada is a decent storyteller. Jigga man isn’t a great storyteller so there. (20,10)
Impact: A no brainer Jay is a more impactful MC. Hell he’s the most in this bracket I think….maybe. (30,10)
Collaboration: Tie. Before you cry foul, consider Jay isn’t always on point in his features…but then again, who is? Jada ties him here. (35,15)
Versatility: HOVA might be the most versatile rapper in this tournament, so yeah. (45,15)
Albums: More contestested than you think, but Jay wins again. Man Jada…. (55,15)
Commercial Success: Not even close. HOVA baby!!!! (65,15)

Jay Z wins with a wopping 65 points! Jada just got unlucky with the seeding I guess.

Seed 2)Eminem vs. Seed 7)Pusha T

Flow: I’m actually going to give a tie here. Em is one of the best here, but so is King Push. (5-5)
Creativity: Em wins here and pretty easily. Just check out songs like “Sing For the Moment” or “Stan”. (15-5)
Storytelling: I’m going to give this one to Em. Its not really that close. (25-5)
Impact: Both rappers have been impactful, but Em gets this too. He’s probably one of the reasons I like rap music in the first place. (35-5)
Collaboration: I’m giving this one to Pusha T. Sure its kinda close, but now that I think about it; I never heard a wack Pusha T guest verse. (35-15)
Versatility: Both rappers are pretty versatile, but Em wins this one too. (45-15)
Albums: I’m going to actually give this one a tie. If you consider Push’s 2 albums are both really really good, and Em has a dud or 2 depending on how you look at it. (50-20)
Commercial Success: Em gets this category easily. Its just not fair. He might be the most successful rapper in the tournament commercially. (60-20)

With 60 points Em moves on!

Seed 3) Ice Cube vs. Seed 6)Big Boi

Flow: Tie. Both rappers are really good here. Big Boi has a more technical flow, while Cube’s is simple yet effective. (5-5)
Creativity: Another tie. I feel both rapper’s music is really creative and fresh sounding. (10-10)
Storytelling: Cube takes this one fairly easy. He’s one of rap’s best storytellers. (20-10)
Impact: This is TOUGH! Both rappers are really impactful, but I’m going to say tie again since I feel Outkast and NWA are pretty much the same impactfulness in different eras. (30-20)
Collaboration: Tough category but Big Boi wins this one. Hes more consistent guest starring at this point. (30-30)
Versatility: Tie. Sheesh lol. Both rappers are really versatile. (40-40)
Albums: Tough one but, Cube wins this one. His first 2 albums are pretty much classics. (50-40)
Commercial Success: Cube wins this one too. I’m looking at BB’s solo album sales. Not even close. (60-40)

Cube wins with 60 points in a tough battle.

Seed 4)Talib Kweli vs. Seed 5) Kid Cudi

Flow: It’s a no brainer Kid Cudi loses this category. Talib has one of the best flows around. (10-0)
Creativity: Tough one…I’ma give this to both. (15-5)
Storytelling: Hmm I’m really feeling both rappers again here lol. (20-10)
Impact: A tough one. I believe that this is a tie as well. KC has been more influential these days and Talib more in the past. (25-15)
Collaboration: Welp, Kid Cudi wins this one. I mean he literally lights up every track he’s on imo. Not saying Talib is bad but Cudi shines brighter as a guest feature. (25-25)
Versatility: Both rappers are versatile yes, but Talib kinda stays in his lane. KC wins this one too. (25-35)
Albums: KC has good albums but some duds. Talib has no duds really so naturally he wins this category….(35-35)
Commercial Success: Sheesh both rappers don’t sell well, but Talib is known for not selling well. Consider Cudi the winner here. (35-45)

Kid Cudi advances barely with 45 points. It was a great battle.

Nas Albums Worst to Best

20)      Nastradamus (75)- It really shouldn’t be a surprise to see this one ranked so low. The lyricism isn’t abysmal but everything is pretty average. How does a song like “Big Girl” make it to a Nas album?? It’s just a boring album plain and simple….I don’t really have a lot to say about it. 19)          Street’s Disciple (82) -I hate having this one so low. I honestly like a lot of the songs on this double disc. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of filler here just like with Jay-z’s Blueprint 2. Disc one has hits like “Nazareth Savage”, “American Way”, “ Just a Moment” and “ You Know My Style”. Disc 2 has some heat on it too: “Suicide Bounce”, the title track, “Virgo”, “Bridging the Gap” and “Thiefs Theme”.   18) T he Lost Tapes 2 (86) -This one I admit I haven’t heard that much…but its pretty decent. It gets off to a good start with songs like “Vernon Family” and “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack)”. A lot of these songs are ok….but not muc...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album
