Best Rapper Ever Tournament: Semi Finals

New Criteria Rules

The categories are the same but if not a tie, then a category can be split 7-3 or 6-4 or 8-2.

Criteria

Flow: How well the rapper articulates on beat.

Creativity: How creative is the artist’s music compared to their peers.

Storytelling: Self Explanatory.

Impact: How have they affected the game. How are they influential.

Collaboration/Guest Feature: How much fire do they typically bring to other people’s tracks.

Versatility: How many kinds of songs are they effective at making

Albums: How many good albums do they have, and how good are they.

Commercial Success: How well have their albums/mixtapes/singles sold.

Kanye West vs. Jay Z

How did they get here?

Round 1: Kanye defeated Young Jeezy….Jay Z defeated Jadakiss.

Round 2: Kanye defeated Common….Jay Z defeated Kid Cudi.

Bracket Final: Kanye defeated Kendrick Lamar. Jay Z defeated Eminem

Semi Final Prediction: I predict Jay Z will win but it will be close.

Flow: Well this is the semifinal so the competition is tough. I think It’s a 2-8 split from Jigga here. (2-8)

Creativity: Kanye gets the nod here but only 7-3 split. I feel Jay has been very trendsetting in his own right. (9-11)

Storytelling: You’d expect both rappers to be quite proficient here….but Jay has the advantage. (11-19)

Impact: I actually feel both rappers are really important to the game. Tie. (16-25)

Collaboration: Jay has been consistent, but I feel Kanye is a tad more consistent on guest features. I also felt Kanye got the better of Jay on Watch the Throne. See im grading this really closely. (23-28)

Versatility: Both rappers are extremely versatile….but….I feel Kanye is arguably a tad bit more. 6-4 point split. (29-32)

Albums: This is where quantity beats ….no. I mean both rappers have terrific discographies. It’s a tie. Why? Jay has several great albums, but so does Mr. West. Both have a weak album or 2 in their discographies as well. (34-37)

Commercial Success: It’s no secret Jigga has outsold Kanye. Its plain and simple. But it’s kinda close, so hell, imma give Kanye 3 points here! But I guess it not enough to beat big brother. (37-44)

That was a hell of a battle but, I felt Jay was a little more dominant than Kanye in most categories. Remember I’m looking at the rapper’s careers as a whole…not just in 2017.

The Notorious B.I.G. vs. 2pac

How did they get here?

Round 1: Biggie beat Snoop Dogg. 2pac beat Rick Ross.

Round 2: Biggie beat J.Cole. 2pac beat T.I.

Bracket Final: Biggie beat Nas, 2pac beat Drake.

Prediction: It could honestly go either way…idk man.

Flow: Ooo. Well these are arguably the best to ever flow….I mean sh**. However I feel Biggie is a tad better here flow wise. (6-4)

Creativity: Its no secret this is hard to call. Compared to their peers both rappers are off the charts, but Pac just was MORE creative. Not by much tho. (9-11)

Storytelling: Tie. Before you cry and cuss listen to Biggie. That man could storytell about as well as anyone. And Pac…? Of course he could flow. (14-16)

Impact: I honestly can’t call this. Both have meant SO MUCH to the rap game….TIE dawg. (19-21)

Collaboration: I have to give Biggie an edge here. Its not that Pac didn’t bring it but he just didn’t collab like that. (27-23)

Versatility: Damn man! This isn’t getting any easier to call. But as a rap referee I’ve got to call it! Tie. Both rappers are great here….(32-28)

Albums: Now I have to poke holes in great discographies. This time it’s quality vs. quantity. Sh**! Lol. Biggie i wont count your albums that came out after you died. But I count the ones after Pac? Hmm. Pac has a slight edge here. (36-34)

Commercial Success: Well it’s no secret Pac has outsold Biggie. Hell, it doesn’t take any brain surgeon to tell you that….Before I tell you who wins the battle consider that Biggie is only up 2 points here. Which means he needs a 6-4 split. But nah, it’s a 8-2 split in favor of Pac! (38-42)

That was very hard to call. I like these rappers a lot. And before you say that it’s rigged…consider I like Biggie more personally but hey, Pac is greater. He made more music.

Nas Albums Worst to Best

20)      Nastradamus (75)- It really shouldn’t be a surprise to see this one ranked so low. The lyricism isn’t abysmal but everything is pretty average. How does a song like “Big Girl” make it to a Nas album?? It’s just a boring album plain and simple….I don’t really have a lot to say about it. 19)          Street’s Disciple (82) -I hate having this one so low. I honestly like a lot of the songs on this double disc. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of filler here just like with Jay-z’s Blueprint 2. Disc one has hits like “Nazareth Savage”, “American Way”, “ Just a Moment” and “ You Know My Style”. Disc 2 has some heat on it too: “Suicide Bounce”, the title track, “Virgo”, “Bridging the Gap” and “Thiefs Theme”.   18) T he Lost Tapes 2 (86) -This one I admit I haven’t heard that much…but its pretty decent. It gets off to a good start with songs like “Vernon Family” and “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack)”. A lot of these songs are ok….but not muc...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album
