Movie Review: Ready Player One

This movie is so creative. It takes in the year 2045 in Columbus Ohio, which ive actually been to. So basically the world is a s*** hole …well not really but people spend MOST OF THEIR TIME in the Oasis. It’s a virtual reality video game far beyond the PSVR…

James Halliday became like a god to people. But then he died. But he made a contest to find 3 keys to find an egg. The one who has the egg will literally own the program/video game. This review has minimal spoliers but there are some. Reader be warned ,dude.

Wade Watson is the main character. His parents are dead in the movie so he lives with his Aunt and her loser boyfriend. I call him a loser cause what woman makes her boyfriend “go to your room”.  Wade is known as what is called to be a Gunter. Gunters are trying to win the contest. The villains are called the “Sixers” no relation to the basketball team lol. The Sixers are the 2nd largest company next to Gregarious Games, Halliday’s company. Their leader, Nolan Sorento, is a dick.

Wade ends up trying to complete the first challenge which is just race to get to the end of this track. He ends up wining after he watches one of these Halliday hologram archives. So he then teams up with a virtual celebrity gunter called Artemis. Wade does end up falling for Artemis….and he even tells her his real name which is a big NO NO.  I don’t want to dive too deep into the specific details of the plot, but I will say halfway through…or after Wade and his friends beat the 2nd challenge things get REAL as in people die in the real world…

Wade ends up joining a resitstance. The Sixers get the jump on the final challenge and the battle to stop them begins. This is when the movie goes from B-rated to A range. The final battel is so intense. There’s so much goin on at this point….Of course the resistance defeats the sixers at the end. The Halldiay Library curator turned out to be someone very important and he helps Wade win the game.
So in a sense you have lots of themes here. But let’s look at the Oasis as to what it is and what it does to humanity. People are so involved in the virtual world that they forget what its like to be outside. You can kinda of see that happening now. Wade says they just use the real world for food, sleep, and bathroom breaks. The world problems are unfixed…but that doent mean the whole world is a dystopian s*** hole, more like just Columbus Ohio.

I love how Wade is just a regular guy…who becomes the owner of the worlds biggest and greatest video game. The end of the movie really had me tears. It is so awesome and RELATABLE. No this movie isn’t for everybody. The fact that more people are into video games and social media makes this movie very believable. The movie looks fantastic. The locations are vibrant…and the music is awesome too. Lots of known songs are used.

So in coclusion as of me writing this, Ready Player One is my favorite movie of 2018….and that says a lot considering Black Panther and Avengers Infinity War were excellent. While those are 5 star films, Ready Player One just has so much CREATIVITY and charm. So while I don’t think it’s the most impressive or action packed movie of this year. Its already on my all time favorite list. “Some things are perfect just the way they are” and “Thanks for playing my game” says James Halliday. Good game, great movie.

10/10

Doja Cat Albums Worst to Best

Doja Cat has been one of my favorite rapper/singers of the past few years. Let's see which albums are the best from her. 5) Amala (88)- Doja’s first album is honestly pretty damn good. You can tell she was still refining her sound tho on this. The last 3 songs “Juicy”, “Tia Tamera”, and “Mooo” are so good. “Candy” is another banger. The album is really well balanced being pretty much good in all areas but not really great in any tho. Favorite Track: Mooo. 4) Scarlet (90)- Believe it or not, this was an album I was on the fence about getting. I’m glad I got it. This is a rap heavy album but there’s still plenty of singing here and there. “Demons” and “F**k the GIrls” are Doja at her roughest. “Attention” was a great single. “Agora Hills” is a nice cute track. The monster single “Paint the Town Red” is the best track however. This album wa a big departure for her, but for the most part it paid off. Fav. Track Paint the Town Red. 3) Vie (92)- This was Doja returning to her pop roots,...

Video Game Review: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

I happened to beat this game recently for the first time in I was just in awe at how epic this game is. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake (which I played on the ps4). This game was a ps5 exclusive however. I know I needed a ps5 if I was gonna play it. And last year I made that happen. This is a continuation of the story of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barrett as they fight against the Shinra Corporation and the evil Sephiroth. I'll try not spoil much. When the game starts you play as Zack who is a solider like Cloud. You saw Zack at the end of Remake. Basically story wise there is another dimension in this game and you play as Zach in it here and there. There is a relationship meter that the main character Cloud has with every party member….answering certain questions one way or another will change the relationship. I found this to be a cool touch that the first game barely had any resemblance of. The game's graphics are outstanding and characters look ...

Album Review: Doja Cat-Vie

The much anticipated latest Doja Cat album! I was very curious to see where she'd go after the dark rap heavy Scarlet. The path she took was a 80s sounding pop album. It took a few listens for the album to click with me but yeah its awesome. Doja is in her zone here on this album. She sings a lot and acts as her own featured rap artist which is interesting. The first 3 songs are pretty strong. "Cards" is sultry. I love "Jealous Type" too (the lead single). "AAAH MEN!" might be my favorite song however. The production is great but maybe not the best she's ever had. I liked most every song. "Silly!Fun!" and "Come Back" are also excellent. As far as features go there's only SZA on " Take Me Dancing". So basically we have a very strong album here...but maybe not quite as good as Planet Her but it’s very close. Maybe I'll do a Doja Cat album ranking in the near future. She's been one of my favorite artists sin...
