My Thoughts: Cardi B

Cardi B

I was speculating on what to blog about when I remember I never gave you guys my thoughts on Cardi B. The New York rapper really took the game by storm in 2017 and last year. I would say the praise is pretty well deserved. Of course with every celebrity there is controversy. I'll touch on that too.

If you've been following me you know that I'm a big Cardi B fan but I'm also a big Nicki Minaj fan too. I think Cardi is an explosive rapper. What she may lack in lyricism she makes up for in energy and delivery. And no I wouldnt qualify Cardi as a mumble rapper. She aint mumblin ha ha. She gets a lot of flack for not "writing her own raps" or "using ghost writers". Truth is a lot of rappers do that nowadays.

There was also some controversy with Cardi inviting men to sleep with her and another woman and robbing them afterwards. I certainly don't condone these actions but everybody has darkspot or two in their past.

Question: Is Cardi B now the game's top female rapper?
Yeah I figured why not answer the elephant in the room. I'm actually going to say .....right now, yes. Nicki while still (i.m.o.) the most dominant female rapper all time, thats all time. Cardi is certainly on top right now. She might owe some of that success to her personality but hey its all good. Her videos on youtube and instagram rants are a lot of fun to watch.

Album Review: Schoolboy Q-Blue Lips

Ok I am a big Schoolboy Q fan. I gotta say I love this album...but believe it or not what kept me from getting it till fall 2024 was that horrendous album artwork lol. I mean damn its gross! Schoolboy has some great flows and lyricism on this album. "Thank god 4 me" is absolute flames. "Blueslides" is another highlight. There's something about the song "first" that is just so catchy to me. "Yern" is also pretty hard man. The guest list is minimal but it works. The production is really good here too. The album isn't quite as good as Blank Face to me but its definitely a major improvement over his last album Crash Talk. Definitely check this one out. Lyrics 24 Beats 23 Depth 23 Tilt 23 Verdict 93

Kanye West 2 Part-Post (Revised Top Songs & Album Ranking)

1.       Gold Digger- To be honest, I didn’t like this song the first time I heard it. The beat is so infectious, and the lyrics are so clever, and that hook. Its his best song to date! He raps about a gold digging chick lol. 2.       All Falls Down- Kanye is extremely introspective on this song. The hook and beat make it great. This is ranked so high because it was the song that really propelled him to superstardom in 2004. 3.       Jesus Walks- A controversial song about Jesus being with those in need. Its just plain awesome. But I wouldn’t expect him to make a JW2 lol. Not in a million years. 4.       Can’t Tell Me Nothing- The best song on Graduation is dope. It’s a dark sounding banger. Kanye drops lyrical gems here. The Jeezy sample and the other sample are pure genius. 5.       Power- The aggressive first single to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85
