My Thoughts: Star Wars

I have reviewed Star Wars stuff often on this blog but it dawns on me; I've never given you guys my thoughts on SW and its fandom. Let's back up. I have been a fan of star wars ever since 1998. I remember a family member got me the original trilogy on VHS. They had no idea what they were doing! lol

The OT was absolutely amazing. I remember I finished A New Hope that night but I had seen about half of the first one before over another family member's house. I really liked how tense and creative Star Wars was (A New Hope). As good as that was I saw Empire Strikes Back the next day. The mighty plot twist involving Darth Vader blew me away. I think I saw Return of the Jedi right after that...i'm not sure. I remember really liking Luke Skywalker. I didn't really like Vader that much at the time.

Not long after those days I heard there was gonna be a new Star Wars movie called Phantom Menace. I was really hype for it. I really enjoyed the movie but I could kind of tell it wasn't quite on par with the first 3 movies. I heard fans didn't like it much. I loved it. I even remember liking Jar Jar Binks. And who didnt love Darth Maul.

3 years later I got to see Attack of the Clones. The movie seemed more towards the plot of the the overall story of Star Wars. I remember the first time I saw it. I remember not wanting it to end that first time. The movie got a lot of backlash for its forced love scenes and poor dialogue. I actually didnt let that bother me tho. I really liked Anakin Skywalker. He seemed somewhat relateable. He was a teenager and so was I.

Then 3 years later one of my favorite movies came out, Revenge of the Sith. I remember the hype for this one was HUUUUGE. We really thought it would be the last SW movie at the time. I finally got to see it. It was so good, and it was dark too. I believe it was the first one to warrant a PG-13 rating. The movie had so much action and lightsaber battles. I really liked Anakin in this one. He was a tortured soul but he seemed really cool before and as Vader.

Later that summer I remember playing the ROTS video game. It was fun but felt kinda like a cash grab. It was moderately fun but pretty difficult. Later that year I got Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS2), which I still consider the best SW video game ever. The game just felt so incredible. There were so many options and details to that game.

Fast Forward 10 years to get to Star Wars Force Awakens. I saw it in theaters with my best friend. It was a rehash of A New Hope, but like most criticism with these movies I didn't care. The movie felt overall pretty fresh. There were a lot of new characters like Rey and Kylo Ren to like. I thought Finn was kinda corny but oh well.

I guess its obvious I really like the Disney Star Wars movies. Rogue One was really good, albeit it was a movie nobody really asked for. I found it really cool to see how the Rebels got the Death Star plans. I was really hype for The Last Jedi. I have reviewed that movie up here already and encourage you to read it. The Han Solo movie was good also. I mean who new (Spoiler Alert) that Han was once an Imperial pilot. Its little things like that that i really enjoy.

That leads us to Rise of Skywalker trailer. It looks like it will be really good. I do realize that The Last Jedi was extremely polarizing among the fan base. I am hoping that Rise of Skywalker will be the best of the sequel trilogy. I've noticed that fans seem to love the prequels now, but at the time they seemed to dislike them.

Nas Albums Worst to Best

20)      Nastradamus (75)- It really shouldn’t be a surprise to see this one ranked so low. The lyricism isn’t abysmal but everything is pretty average. How does a song like “Big Girl” make it to a Nas album?? It’s just a boring album plain and simple….I don’t really have a lot to say about it. 19)          Street’s Disciple (82) -I hate having this one so low. I honestly like a lot of the songs on this double disc. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of filler here just like with Jay-z’s Blueprint 2. Disc one has hits like “Nazareth Savage”, “American Way”, “ Just a Moment” and “ You Know My Style”. Disc 2 has some heat on it too: “Suicide Bounce”, the title track, “Virgo”, “Bridging the Gap” and “Thiefs Theme”.   18) T he Lost Tapes 2 (86) -This one I admit I haven’t heard that much…but its pretty decent. It gets off to a good start with songs like “Vernon Family” and “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack)”. A lot of these songs are ok….but not muc...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album
