I meant to review this game way back in the day when I first beat it but this is coming after my 2nd play-through. This time I played the game on hard difficulty and man was it tough.
Compared to Jedi Survivor I think the game has a better story. You join Jedi padawan Cal Kestis as he escapes a scrapyard planet Bracca , fleeing from the Empire. Cal comes face to face with an Inquistor called 2nd sister. You end up fighting her a total of 4 times in the game.
The main story is Cal must help a former Jedi named Cere and her pilot Greez to find a Jedi holocron that has a list of force sensitive children to rebuild the Jedi Order. I gotta say the planets you visit are all for the most part pretty flushed out . I found Zeffo to be the main planet and navigating it is truly awful. Well I’m glad they made navigation better in Jedi Survivor. Of all the planets Dathomir (Darth Mauls planet) was by far the worst. There was tough enemies around every corner there and hard boss fights when you visit.
In this game there were a decent amount of enemy variety. You’re usually fighting Imperial forces or dangerous wildlife. Regular storm troopers aren’t much challenge…neither were scout troopers . Purge troopers however were tough. There’s different types of them too. Some have electro staffs. Some have daggers, some use a blaster. There is a rare kind that uses a big hammer like weapon.
In this game you only have single bladed lightsaber or double bladed. Double is really only good when you’re crowded by enemies ….cause it does less damage then the single bladed. You have a good amount of things to unlock on the skill tree. On this 2nd play through on hard difficulty I didn’t complete the skill tree. This time I got more stims which are used to heal Cal.
The boss fights in this game are pretty tough…I can’t really say they’re easier than Jedi Survivor but they will put your skills to the test. Spoiler: the Second sister was actually Trilla who is Cere’s lost apprentice . This was a good plot twist! Also she is the final boss technically and is hard as hell to beat. There were some other good bosses too like the giant Bat boss and the ninth sister.
The games puzzles are really good and better than the sequels for the most part.I really like your robot companion BD-1. BD-1 scans the environment and enemies for you.(You even get experience when he does). Overall I really enjoyed playing this game again. The combat is so satisfying. There doesn't feel like there's too much platforming like in the sequel. The game’s performance is a little muddy at times but for the most part it runs fine on ps4. I really recommend you play this game before Survivor. It will really pay off and you'll understand the characters more.
Verdict 9.2
