Honorable Mentions: Titan Fall 2, DBZ Kakarot, Star Wars Battlefront II, Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection.
15) Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga-This has proven to be a really fun Lego Star Wars game. It has some great missions from all 9 mainline Star Wars movies. I love the voice acting actually which isn’t what you’d expect from a Lego game. The game is just a ton of fun. You can play as almost any star wars character you can think of….
14) Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection- I’m no stranger to fighting games. I had Street Fighter V also but this collection I poured way more hours into. It’s got Street Fighter 1, many versions of 2, Alpha, and 3. It has the ability to save your progress in any point of any fight…which I gotta tell you was a real life saver! This is definitely a must have for any Street Fighter fan.
13) NBA 2k23-This is the 2k I probably played the most in recent years due to not getting a new NBA 2k till I got a ps5 (2k26). This is a great game. There’s the Michael Jordan challenges which were tough. I didn’t beat them all. They were quite a bit more forgiving then the 2k11 MJ challenges. I don’t really do My Career…I was more of a let’s take a team through a season or playoffs and win a championship player.
12) Rise of the Tomb Raider-One of the main things I loved about this game was Lara’s maturity from the first game. In the first game it was like she was just trying to survive. In this game it’s like she’s who she’s supposed to be…the legendary Tomb Raider! It’s pretty similar to the first game. There is much more of an open world feel to it tho. Who could forget taking on a bear or some other tense moments the campaign provided. If I had to say one bad thing about it, its that the final boss fight was kinda lame…..
11) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)-I’ve played a lot of CODs over the years and for the ps4…this is the best one imo. The campaign was a master class in action. There were really tense moments too….stuff that really kept you guessing what came next. The multiplayer was a ton of fun too. I was coming off a period where I didn't have a Playstation plus membership but I finally got one again so I played the hell out of this game. And the modern warfares after this have just gotten worse each time lol.
10) Jedi Fallen Order- I recently beat this game again on Jedi Master difficulty. This is a game where you can basically live out your Jedi fantasies. Cal Kestis is only a Jedi Padawan for most of the game but he’s still quite capable. Even though this game would be outdone by Jedi Survivor in gameplay, its story is definitely better. This is not an easy game at all. The game is still so much fun today.
9) Uncharted Lost Legacy-I’ve played every Uncharted game. I’ve beaten this one twice. This is the ladies Uncharted which stars Chloe Frazier and Nadine Ross. It really is more Uncharted 4 with its own puzzles and stuff. My biggest complaint with the game is that you never get to play as Nadine. Chloe is a great protagonist tho and is highly likable. The villain is good too. And (Spoiler alert) Nathan Drake’s older brother Sam is here too.
8) Jedi Survivor- I really enjoyed this game. I was very interested to see where the journey of Cal Kestis would go after the first game. This game just has more of everything for the most part. More cosmetics for Cal and your lightsaber. More 3 additional lightsaber forms and they’re all pretty different. I found myself rarely using the regular lightsaber form. The game is just as hard as the first game maybe harder. There is a lot more platforming here which I personally liked. The maps were much easier to read too. Unfortunately the story wasn’t as good to me as the first game’s.
7) Horizon Zero Dawn-This game was made by the same people who brought you the Killzone games. This game is just amazing. You control main character Aloy as she tries to discover more of her post apocalyptic world. You fight robotic animals and villainous humans with your bows, spear, and other weapons. I really thought the game was quite beautiful. The game was a little hard. I didn’t get too far without turning down the difficulty a little bit. Overall tho the combat and story were great. The graphics were really good too.
6) God of War (2018)-I’m a huge God of War fan so its no surprise this game made my list. This game was kind of like a reboot for the series. While I do prefer old God of war games, this game is a masterpiece. Kratos and his son, Atreus, explore the norse realms. The main goal is to spread Atreus’s mother’s ashes on the highest peak in the realms. There are many twists and turns to the story. The game is pretty tough but it never really feels cheap however. The enemy variety is kind of low but its still really fun. I really liked the father-son dynamic in this game. I’ve beaten this game twice now and it has been a blast both times.
5) Marvel’s Spiderman- We’re in the top 5 now, and honestly these games are almost interchangeable. Spiderman is a really fun game to play. Spiderman has a huge arsenal of moves and abilities at his disposal. The combat is easy to get used to and can still be kind of challenging. Some of the boss fights were truly challenging. There were some fights were you fight 2 bosses at once. The graphics were very good also. The only times the game isn’t fun is when you’re doing forced stealth sections with Mary Jane or Miles. Yeah and that’s more than once for them too….Still a fantastic game.
4) Horizon Forbidden West-This game was an improvement over the original in most ways. The melee combat was better and the side quests usually let to some really great rewards. There’s a lot of new machines to fight…some of them were truly intimidating. (Looking at you Slaughterspine). The story was good but maybe a little wonkier than Zero Dawn’s. I don’t want to spoil it here. Graphically the game was stunning too. I was truly thankful they brought this game to PS4…otherwise I would have had to wait till 2025 to play it. It didn’t take me too long to beat this game as it came out in February of 2022…I think I beat it in May of that year.
3) God of War Ragnarok- Another sequel that game play wise; blows the first game out of the water. This was a truly action packed game. The way you use the Blades of Chaos in and out of combat was truly great. The sections were you play as teenage Atreus were good too. The game looked amazing too. The story was good but it kind of felt like they were squeezing too much in at the end. It felt like the final third of the game could have been its own thing. What I don’t like is the difficulty of the game. Thats what has me not so eager to play through it again. Some of the fights near the end of the game had me feeling like I was beating my head against a wall lol. The boss fights were epic here. I remember one boss fight that literally came out of nowhere.
2) Final Fantasy 7 Remake-This is a role playing game that reinvigorated my interest in the final fantasy series. FF7 Remake is a game you can tell was meticulously made….and with a lot of love for the source material. Most of the game takes place in the city of Midgar….which was only about the first disc of the original game. The main characters: Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barrett are the stars of this game. The game is beautiful. The pacing is literally perfect. You’re never doing one thing for too long. The combat is fun too. It’s a mix of turn based combat with real time fighting. The game feels lengthy too. I really felt the difficulty to be just right too. After my 2nd play through I was contemplating if it was my new favorite in the series.
1) Uncharted 4-I originally had this game lower but Uncharted 4 is everything you could want in a game. There’s lots of great action set pieces, fun fire fights, great dialogue, and engaging puzzles. Nathan Drake is really good here. Sully and Elena are back too from Uncharted 3. The story centers around Nathan’s older brother Sam asking him to help find Henry Avery’s long lost treasure. The enemy A.I. is pretty intelligent too I gotta say. The game came out in 2016 but remained one of the best looking games for years after. The controls and combat are great. There’s a good variety of locations too.I do believe this is the longest Uncharted game in the series too. I’ve played through this twice now and it was a blast the 2nd time too.
