Recovery is an album that is kind of the album that Encore should have been. Despite his high energy on most every track, Em has mellowed down a whole lot. In fact this album has most normal subject matter of any Eminem album. Relapse was a little too violent and crazy, and his album before that, Encore was a little too silly. So how good is his 2010 album Recovery? I’ll go through each song.
Cold Wind Blows: Eminem jumps right out the gate attacking Mariah Carey (again)…the song is long, but it’s the perfect mixture of ferociousness with humor. Eminem has a tendency to have people like Christopher Reeves talk in his raps …but this time he gets someone to do God’s voice…which is just over the top. This is a really good intro to Recovery. 9/10
Talkin 2 Myself: A very introspective song. Em takes you threw a journey of what he went through during his hiatus from the rap game and what he felt like during last year. The chorus from Kobe is really good. Also the beat is pretty catchy. “Those last 2 albums didn’t count, Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushin em out”. 9/10
On Fire: A pretty cool song. Em basically just brags about how dope his flow is compared to other rappers. The punchlines aren’t all that but it’s a good song. I like the chorus but I feel the beat is too basic. 8.5/10
Won’t Back Down: This is in the conversation for the best song on the album. The beat is really fast and Em’s verses hit just as hard. The Pink chorus works really well too. The song is just a lot of fun…it just feels like Eminem is just toying with the beat like the genious rapper he is. 9.5/10
W.T.P.: This song is pretty dope. But its really not about nothing but a “WHITE TRASH PARTY”. The song is really funny, and it reminds me of the party songs from Slim shady and Marshall Mathers LPs (C** on Everybody & Drug Ballad). 8.5/10
Going Through Changes: Another Introspective kind of song, but this time its more about his daughters. Its not bad at all, and is certainly better than the similar song on Eminem Show. (Hailie’s Song). The chorus is short and sweet. 8/10
Not Afraid: The lead single is really really good, and at its heart is like Loose Yourself, slowed down. The beat is a backdrop, yet this is an epic song. Every line has tremendous meaning, and the chorus is incredibly inspirational. 10/10
Seduction: This song has Em sounding like a fish out of water, but its subtleties make it a good song. He basically disses a rapper(I don’t know who), by saying he screws his woman. Its an interesting song, but comes off as a bit much. Eminem’s flow is what keeps this from being an average song. 7.5/10
No Love: My Favorite song on the album, is a wonder to listen to. Lil Wayne joins the white phenom, does a really good job. Wayne says “Put a d*** in they mouth, so I guess its f*** what they say”. As good as Weezy’s verse is, Em comes in after the chorus and puts him to shame! Em’s flow and delivery are powerful, as his subject matter. After hearing this song in particular I had to conclude Em was the Best rapper alive. 10/10
Space Bound: This is really kind of a love song. Its not bad, but isn’t all that either. I really like the pacing and the chorus. 7.5/10
Cinderella Man: A triumphant song. Em basically talks about himself like he’s a living legend. He talks about his last album (Relapse) sucking, which it didn’t, but for Em he says it wasn’t his best.
25 To Life: The most boring song on the album. Its about his ex wife. He needs to leave Kim alone. But the chorus is good. 7/10
So Bad: One of my favorite songs on the album. Again Em is in a funny position(Having sex) but he pulls it off with his boasts and great delivery.
Almost Famous: Em talks down to rival rappers trying to take his spot. Could this be an Asher Roth diss? Anyway it’s a really good song. The chorus is really hot, and Em just pounces the beat. “I stuck my d*** in this game like a racist, they call me Slim Rotheslburger”9/10
Love the Way You Lie:Before I heard this song I didn’t know Em and Rihanna had so much chemistry. It’s a great song. Its basically about domestic violence. It’s a sad yet really thoughtful song. 9.5/10
You’re Never Over: The ode to his dead friend Proof is pretty good, but the chorus is kinda corny. It does Proof justice, and is a fitting end to the album….8/10
Untitled: The bonus track has no name, but this is one really really hot song. He’s everywhere subject matter wise, but it never feels as crazy as Relapse’s songs. It has a really really cool beat from Havoc.

I'd give this album a 4/5......
