Chesstown King's Reviews and Thoughts

 This new Rick Ross album is pretty good. When I looked on iTunes and saw a lot of negative reviews it was due to people dissing the album cause he pushed the release date back lol. Ross raps of elegance and such. "Mahogany Caskets" which features T.I. is a banger. I love the energy the two have here. "Minks in Miami" is another great track with a dope beat. That one features French Montana and Max B. I'm happy that Ross brought back the Maybach Music song series with "Maybach Music VII". It's pretty damn good but I'm not really feeling the Don Toliver hook tho....Jeezy raps well on it of course. "Living Large" which features BigXthaPlug is one of my favorites. "City Lights" with the Dream is another highlight. I liked "She's My Star" with Yung Miami too. Overall this is a good album but maybe a little average for Rick Ross. I wasn't disappointed by it. This album hit me by surprise and it is a worth successor to the Documentary series .The Game spits really well here but that doesn't really surprise me. He always seems to bring it lyrically. Honestly this album grew on me. At first I want too big on it. A song like "Sticks" is kinda odd but I like it. "Geezus", the first song is really dope as Game raps, "Ima make you a celebrity overnight". I didn't really like the song "Party at Game's"....I mean I see what he was going for but nah. "Baby" is pretty damn good tho as it samples Ashanti's old song with the same name. There's 2 Kanye West assisted songs "40 Nights" and "LA Monster".   6) Tha Carter VI: It’s no secret the latest Carter album is the worst. Most of these songs are pretty mid to bad. What was he thinking on “Peanuts 2 N Elephant”? I kinda like “Cotton Candy” with 2 Chainz. “Welcome to Tha Carter” is great. I liked “Hip-Hop” which featured BigXthaPLug. “Island Holiday” and “If I Played Guitar” were very bad tho. Opening Opinion 98/100 Disc 29 29 Intro-An old timey like song plays about going to Carolina. It kinda sets the tone for the theme of the album. This album is a love letter to J.Cole’s hometown. Gunshots end the track which is wild.  6/10 Two Six-The lead single. I love Cole’s flows on this track. The beat is fire too. It sounds laid back and menacing.   9/10 SAFETY-J.Cole’s raps from the perspective of his friends from his hometown telling him about what’s been going on. It’s really creative and well produced. When he talks about the gay guy he almost calls him the f word but he stops himself lol. 9.5/10 Run A Train-This is a pretty interesting song. J.Cole is joined by Future who sounds pretty invigorated on the chorus. “Fuck do you know about my passion, fuck do you know about my pain, fuck do you know about my struggle, fuck do you know about Jermaine?”.
