1Here we have the top rap albums of 2016. I just got Run the Jewels so it will go with the 2017 albums. ALso i have no score for Ab-Soul and Vince Staples albums....but i dont think they woulda cracked the top 15 so.....there you go guys.
.
Common-Black America Again (97) One of Common’s
best albums. Lyricism is on point here and the production and depth is not in
question either. The title track is tremendous. It’s in a 3 way tie for the
best album of the year.
2.
A Tribe Called Quest-We Got it From Here..Thank
You for Your Service(97) I didn’t expect to like this album so much, but there’s
plenty of guest spots which works. Q-tip is a shade or two below an all time
great rapper too. Phife Dawg would be proud.
3.
Kid Cudi-Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin (97)
Arguably the most enticing album of the top 3. Kid Cudi’s return to form and
great album of the 2010s. Well done Cudi.
4.
Kanye West-The Life Of Pablo (96) What else can I
say about LoP? Its incredibly addictive but not quite as deep as the top
albums. Kanye shows no signs of slowing down.
5.
The Game-1992 (96) Game had the top album of the
year last year(tied with Lupe). This year he’s top 5. Not bad. 1992 is a great
album loaded with introspective raps. Best rapper in the Westside today.
6.
J.Cole-4 Your Eyez Only(96) I heard a lot of
people didn’t like this album upon release. WTH y’all smoking? It’s not as good
as 2014 FHD but it’s so lyrically deep. Cole continues to solidify his place
with Kendrick as the new school’s best lyricists.
7.
Schoolboy Q-Blank Face LP (95) A dark album.
Schoolboy Q had the best album out of his camp in 2016. That Part is fire, as
is Ride Out, Str8 Ballin, and Big Body.
8.
Logic-Bobby Tarantino (94)-A simple yet
effective album. Super Mario World is one of my favorite songs this year. I’m
ready for his next album. This guy is on his way to being a great rapper.
9.
YG-Still Brazy (94)-I wasn’t too excited about
this album before hearing it, but its WAY better than his first album. The
beats are great and his lyricism is much improved. F.D.T. indeed.
10.
Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis- This Unruly Mess I’ve
Made(94)A true shocker as I’m not a huge fan of Mackelmore. However, this is a
damn good album. Its not as cheesy as The Heist. Listen to it if you haven’t already.
11.
Danny Brown-Atrocity Exhibition(94) I’m not
really a fan of Danny Brown but this is an interesting listen. It’s creative
and dark too. Critics and I agree you need to cop this album. (His voice is
still cray)
12.
Drake-Views(93) Drizzy strikes back but its not
enough to crack the top ten. In the year’s first half he was up there though.
Views is truly polarizing but its just a
good album. The production is solid as are his flows. The singing is
tolerable too :P.
13.
Chance the Rapper-Coloring Book(92) I must admit
I haven’t listened to this album much. Its honestly overrated but it’s by no
means not good. Chance raps his ass off on these soulful tracks.
14.
Royce da 5’9-Layers(92) Royce is an underrated
rapper….but he gets the nod here over label mate Joe Budden. I mean 1 point
separates their albums. This album starts with the powerful song, Tabernacle. It’s
just a really creative album.
15.
Kendrick Lamar-Untitled.Unmastered(92)-Easily
the weirdest album on this list. I’ve learned to like it though. Kendrick just
has that knack for making music that sounds nothing like his peers. Untitled 1
really makes me think ….
