1. Kanye West-Can he get much higher? Not
really. Kanye is the most versatile rapper ever, bar none. Sure some of it has
to do with him being a producer first. But lyrically he just got better and
better(Until Yeezus). I like how Kanye has changed his image after virtually
every album he’s made. On College Dropout he was a great backpack rapper, on
Late Registration it was more of that. On Graduation he was this superstar
rapper. On 808s he was an emo ni**a lol. On MBDTF he was a larger than rap
rapper. On Yeezus he was a self-proclaimed Rap God. Unlike Jay-z, I feel Kanye
still has to prove some doubters wrong. When its all said and done Kanye will
be a top rapper on everyones list.
2. Eminem-The great white rapper is a like
a great white shark on the mic. Em is kind of like 2pac, but much goofier or
much more violent at other times. Em almost had the #1 spot. I really like how
he uses his sense of humor even with the most insane or offensive punchlines. I
feel Em is at the point where there’s nothing for him to prove, but I know that
he would like to be known as the G.O.A.T., and he needs another classic or 2
for that.
3. Jay-z-Jay used to be my favorite
rapper, well he’s still up there. I consider Jay to be one of the most
versatile rappers to ever do it. Jay can do it all, and he has made some really
great albums. He also greatly influenced rappers like Kanye West. Like Nas, he doesn’t
really have anything to prove.
4. Ludacris-Yes u don’t need glasses, Luda
is really #4. He’s a great punchline rapper, who seems to excel the most when
he’s just having fun on the tracks. Luda is one of 3 rappers that really got me
into rap in the first place. Hell I even wanted and grew braids to be like Luda
in the 2000s.
5. Nas-Nasty Nas is also a really great lyricist,
and I think he’s earned the title as rap’s best storyteller. I been a big fan
since Stillmatic. Nas has an impressive discography. He doesn’t really have
anything to prove. My favorite Nas album is…I don’t know, I like so many!
6. The Notorious B.I.G.-You knew Biggie would
be on my list and in the top 10. Arguably the best lyricist ever, and he just didn’t
have any flaws skill wise. The biggest complaint is that he only has 2 real
albums.
7. T.I.-The King of the South is an
impeccable lyricist. I’ve been a fan ever since..well I wasn’t a huge fan till I
heard King, but I always T.I. would be an elite rapper. Things have kind of
cooled off for him these days though.
8. G-Unit(50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck)-I
combined the Unit into one spot. 50, Banks, and Buck(screw the other guy) are
great rappers. I remember when I used to listen to their music a whole lot in
the mid 2000s. 50 is the best with the hooks, Buck has the most gangsta appeal,
and Lloyd is the best lyricist.
9. Kid Cudi-Cudi is a unique rapper, but I
feel he makes more rhythmic music than Lupe. I really enjoyed the first 3
albums he put out. The first one took rap album of the year for 2009. I wonder
what Man on the Moon 3 will be like.
10. 2pac-2pac made my top 10, and not
easily. He’s probably the most well rounded rapper ever. With an impressive
body of work, and great delivery. 2pac is still, I think, the best to ever do
it. I don’t love his albums like I do the rappers ranked 1through 9 though.
11. Game-I really liked the Game…but only
after I heard his first album way back in 05. Since then its been funny. He’s
gotten lyrically better but the beats he raps on aren’t as good as Dr. Dre
beats…and that’s to be expected.
12. Drake-Ah Drizzy. I remember when I didn’t
like Drake…but that was before I heard “Best I ever Had”. When I heard the song
Over I was convinced that he was a good rapper. He is kind of like a more
lyrical Ja Rule who is a lot less gangster.
13. Jeezy-(Young) Jeezy is one of my
favorites for a lot of reasons. He’s really well rounded and has yet to release
a bad album. I cant wait for his 5th one in September. YEAAAAAH!
14. Lupe Fiasco-Lupe has been a little
absent from the rap game lately, but he is one of the best lyricst of all time.
I like his The Cool album the most, but the first and 2nd Food and
Liquor are also great.
15. Ice Cube-I have been a big Ice Cube fan
for a while now. He’s got a great flow and strong delivery. I’m really looking
forward to his next album. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves. The Zulu
16. Outkast-I got a lot of respect for
Outkast. They are one of the reasons I started to get into rap. Ms. Jackson was
one of the premier rap songs ever. I like Big Boi more, but 3000 aint no slouch
on the mic. Will there be another Outkast album?
17. J.Cole-Cole is the future of rap I think.
He reminds me of Nas and Jay, which is a compliment. Born Sinner was one of my
favorite albums of 2013…so whats next? I hope Cole continues to make more good
albums.
18. Lil Wayne-YMCMB lead rapper makes the
list, but barely. Weezy needs to bring it on Carter V, cause his last 2 albums weren’t
all that…wait no last 3. Wayne still has really good punchlines.
19. Nicki Minaj-I wasn’t a big Nicki fan
till about 2012…she raps with a lot of character and charisma…even if her
punchlines aren’t that great. I look forward to the Pinkprint.
20. Common-The Chi Town rapper beat out
some tough competition just to make my list. He has an impressive discography
and he is a great lyricist. I didn’t really listen to him until 2007, but that’s
none of your business.
