My Favorite Artists 2017: Rappers (part 3)

1.       Jay Z (10)-A big lift for arguably the greatest to ever do it. 4:44 is the reason he’s up here. But Jigga has long been one of my favorites.
2.       The Game (1)- I hear he’s only gonna make one more album. Well don’t rush it. I rated his last 3 albums really high. He’s got a case for best rapper of all time so far….
3.       Kanye West (2)-I’m a giant Kanye stan I admit. But he’s not my favorite as of right now….Still top 3 tho.
4.       Drake (3)-Drizzy, I like some Drizzy songs mane. More Life grew on me, and Views was also great….he needs to let his works breathe before dropping another project.
5.       Logic (18)-A HUGE jump for Logic. I consider him one of the best rappers of today’s new elite.
6.       J. Cole (5)-Cole world seems to do no wrong since 2013. I loved 4YEO and well I have been big on the last 2 projects as well before that.
7.       Kendrick Lamar (4)-Kung Fu Kenny is an all time great in the making….but DAMN wasn’t as good as his first 2 albums. Despite that tho, I’m a huge supporter of Kdot.
8.       Eminem (7)-I think Em would be higher had he dropped his new album already. Look for him to be higher next time.(in 2018)
9.       Nas (9)-I’m a real fan of Nasir Jones. Ironically he was 9 last year too lol.
10.   N.W.A. (13)-Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are 2 of my favorite artists. I like Eazy E and Mc Ren too.
11.   T.I. (8)-I know T.I. is apparently the best dirty south rapper of all time by my eyes, but that last album wasn’t enough to propel him into the top 10 for me.
12.   Lupe Fiasco (6)-Lupe Lupe Lupe. That last album, Drogas Light…was very polarizing. I like most of it tho. He’s dropped 6 spots. Not bad tho.
13.   Kid Cudi (new)-Cudder has made my lists before…but he was absent last time…and probably the time before that too. That last album PP&DS was amazing.
14.   Big Boi (new)-Big Boi is dope af. He’s left 3stacks in the dust as far as solo work goes.(You cannot dispute me on that).
15.   Common (new)-Again he’s been on my lists before, but not last time. Chi town’s Nas is amazing. Black America Again was lit af last year.
16.   Vince Staples (new)-I’m a big fan of Vince. I think when all is said and done he’ll be an all time great west coast rapper up there with The Game and Kendrick….
17.   Young Jeezy (15)-Jeezy is really good. He’s really improved from his old days. However I feel he’s running out of ad libs hahahha.
18.   Rick Ross (14)-Ross just dropped a great album this year…but he’s not one of my all time favorites. Great right now tho.
19.   Tyler the Creator(new)-I don’t think this is the first list he’s been on but he wasn’t up here last time. He always makes better albums every time he comes out.
20.   Run the Jewels (new)-Killer Mike & El-P are dope and hard hitting rappers. RTJ3 was awesome!

Nas Albums Worst to Best

20)      Nastradamus (75)- It really shouldn’t be a surprise to see this one ranked so low. The lyricism isn’t abysmal but everything is pretty average. How does a song like “Big Girl” make it to a Nas album?? It’s just a boring album plain and simple….I don’t really have a lot to say about it. 19)          Street’s Disciple (82) -I hate having this one so low. I honestly like a lot of the songs on this double disc. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of filler here just like with Jay-z’s Blueprint 2. Disc one has hits like “Nazareth Savage”, “American Way”, “ Just a Moment” and “ You Know My Style”. Disc 2 has some heat on it too: “Suicide Bounce”, the title track, “Virgo”, “Bridging the Gap” and “Thiefs Theme”.   18) T he Lost Tapes 2 (86) -This one I admit I haven’t heard that much…but its pretty decent. It gets off to a good start with songs like “Vernon Family” and “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack)”. A lot of these songs are ok….but not muc...

Album Review: Kid Cudi-Insano (regular version)

I gotta admit I didn't like this album that much when I first heard it over half a year ago. I've heard that Kid Cudi doesn't exactly play to his strengths....that's partly true. I do like his rapping here tho. Honestly most songs here kinda blend together....."Keep Bouncin'" is really hype....and it gets the album off to a good start. "At The Party" with Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott may be my favorite song. "Wow" with A$AP Rocky is another highlight. Overall tho I feel this album tries too hard to be trendy. Cudi needed to put more of his pain into it. I mean a happy Cudi album isn't a bad thing but it really seems odd to me. You're not getting alot of singing or hums here know what I mean? However the production I found to be very good. Cudi is one of my favorite rappers like top 20 and I guess this will do for 2024. Lyrics 20 Beats 23 Depth 21 Tilt 21 Verdict 85

Album Review: Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe has come back, and with a classic album. He seemed to be back on tracks with Food and Liquor II, but F&L2 wasn’t as fun to listen to as his earlier albums. Even LASERS was more fun. This album however, is very complex and fun to listen to. It’s also incredibly well produced. Lupe proves he’s still a top lyricist in the game. Check out his lyrical showcase on Mural, or storytelling on  Prisoner 1 & 2. He’s got a really long song called Chopper which features a lot of guests but its all good. The last song might be the weakest which features Ab-Soul. No Scratches feat. Nikki Jean is one of my favorite songs here. The interludes are pretty intersing, but ultimately skippable. This album is already up for album of the year, and honestly it will be hard for anyone to match this effort. The verdict... its 10/10 for me. This is a great album
