Cruel Summer Review

Kanye West & G.O.O.D. Music

Cruel Summer

Track by Track Review

To the World- “R.Kelly and the God of Rap sh**in on you, Holy crap,” raps Kanye on this first track. It’s really catchy. Teyana Taylor does a nice job also. This song is a decent opener.

8.5/10

Clique- This is one of my favorite songs on the album. It’s even better than 3 Kings from the Rick Ross album in my opinion. Big Sean goes first and raps over this dope and dark beat. Jay-z is the star of this song. I haven’t heard him rap this hard since Blueprint 3. Kanye finishes up the song with a cool verse.

9.5/10

Mercy- The lead single is pretty interesting. There’s a lot of different elements here that make it more than just another rap song with more than 3 rappers on it. Big Sean goes first and does a good job with lines like “Ass-State” & “Ass-quake” lol. Then Pusha T goes next with a hot verse….he uses “Ho” a lot. Then Kanye steals the show with an exciting change of the beat. 2 Chainz goes last, and spits his only memorable lines on the entire album.

8.5/10

New God Flow- I think that’s Nas on the chorus but I don’t know. This song is fire. Pusha T owns it. Kanye spits fire as well. Nothin to complain about here. The 2 rappers have great chemistry. Ghostface Killah shows up for one tremendous 3rd verse which pushes this song over the top!

10/10

The Morning- I didn’t think you could have too many artists on one song but this song may be proof of that. Raekwon, Common,Kid Cudi,Pusha T, and CyHi are all on this track. The rappers talk about the Illuminati, Common included. This isn’t a bad song but it should have been longer….like at least 5 minutes. Oh yea 2 Chainz is up here too.

8/10

Cold- Cold is Theraflu. This song is fire. Kanye is fierce here. The punchlines are great and the beat is tight. Good job Mr. West.

9/10

Higher- This is a really cool song. GOOD music is joined by The-Dream and Mase….that’s right Mase. They both do a good job too. The beat is fairly complex as well.

9/10

Sin City- Another expo of artists that I haven’t really heard of. Teyana Taylor’s chorus is dope. The beat is dope. The lyrics are just a little lacking, but it’s a pretty cool song.

8/10

The One- This song features Marsha Ambrosious, who does a great job. This is a slow paced song, but it fits in just fine. Kanye is the only one with a great verse(Sorry 2 Chainz and Big Sean).

8.5/10

Creepers- One of my complaints with this album is there’s not enough Kid Cudi, but he gets his own song hear, and it’s a great one. It’s a typical KC song but it feels like it could be in between his first 2 albums. It’s really addictive.

9/10

Bliss- John Legend and Teyana Taylor do a great job on this R&B record. The beat is dope.

8.5/10

I Don’t Like(Remix)-This song isn’t bad but it sounds completely out of place. There’s a lot of people on this track, including Jadakiss. Overall though the placement of the song is correct but this isn’t a case where the best was saved for last.

7.5/10

Hmm OVerall i give this album a 8.75/10. Every song is listenable but some are a lot better than others

My Top Rappers of All Time List

30) Rick Ross (7.7) Essential Album: Teflon Don Starting off the list is Ricky Rossay. Ross has great delivery and a lot of good albums. He scores really high in the versatility category. Ross’s pen game has definitely gotten better from when he debuted in 2006 with Port of Miami. Ross’s biggest flaws were his storytelling and impact. Otherwise solid MC.     29) Young Jeezy (7.8) Essential Album: The Recession Another dirty south MC. Jeezy is one of my favorite rappers. He has a lot of good albums with no real duds. He does have the best ad libs in the game. His collaboration and versatility are high. He really brings the heat on his features. Storytelling and Impact weren’t that high but hey; hes tied with the next rapper.   28) Nicki Minaj (7.8) EA: The Pinkprint Arguably the most dominant female rapper of all time. Nicki really shines when features on others tracks. She usually steals the show like on Kanye West’s “Monster” song. She’s also really versatile; able to sing also and

My Favorite R&B Albums (as 2023 list)

Here are my favorite R&B albums. I'm not gonna do the countdown....I'm just going to list them. The last time I did a list like this was 2013. 1.       Rihanna-Good Girl Gone Bad- As her best album and the album that made her a star…it’s only right that as my favorite singer Rihanna takes the title. GGGB isn’t a perfect album but I love it. There’s a little something for everyone here. The smooth “Lemme Get That”, the party anthem “Don’t Stop the Music”, and the jam “Umbrella” featuring Jay-Z. “Hate that I love You” featuring Ne-Yo is really good too. This album is just always a blast to listen to. 2.       Amerie-In Love & War- When I made this list about 10 years ago, this was the number one album. I love this album so much. I was considering her “Because I Love it” album for this list too, but I don’t really go back to that one that much. This album is just a flamethrower of R&B execution. That first half is great with songs like : “Heard Em All”, “Why R U”, and

My Favorite Rap Albums (As of 2024) List

1.       Kanye West-Graduation -Coming in at number one we have Kanye’s 3 rd  album. Sure it’s not his best or flashiest but damnit I love it so much. Listening to this album just gives me so much joy honestly. “Champion” is a great song, then there’s a fan favorite pick “I Wonder”. I do think the lyrically dense “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” is the best track. Who could forget the smooth “Flashing Lights”. It really amazing that Kanye was able to create another great soundscape that sounded very different than College Dropout and Late Registration. Honestly this album isn’t my favorite by leaps and bounds over the top 10; but its certainly still my favorite rap album. 2.       Ludacris-Word of Mouf- Coming in at number 2 is Ludacris. I think this album is his best while others may say Release Therapy or Chicken & Beer. Fun fact this was the first album I ever bought. Sure there’s some filler…but this album has a lot of Ludacris’s best tracks on it. There’s “Rollout”, “Move Bitch”, “Area
