Rapper Breakdown:Kanye West

Rapper- Kanye West
Breakdown Date: Early 2013
“Kanye-Tida”

Rapper albums
The College Dropout
Year: 2004
Top Songs- Jesus Walks, All Falls Down, Slow Jamz, Last Call
Album Score: Lyrics-4.4 ,Beats-4.8= 4.6
Rapper Stats: Flow- 85, Versatility-94, Relevancy-83, Critical Acclaim-87
Rapper Rating- 87.3
Comments-Mr. West’s debut album is really really good. It has no real weaknesses. The beats are better than West’s lyrics, but that’s to be expected. I feel Kanye came out the gate strong, and clearly ahead of all the new rappers of 04’.

Late Registration
2005
Top Songs-Gold Digger, Touch the Sky, Diamonds From Sierra Leone, Gone, Diamond’s Remix
Album Score: Lyrics-4.5, Beats-4.7= 4.6
R S: F-85, V-93, R-88, CA-85
R R: 87.8
C: Kanye avoided the sophomore slump by trying out new glossier sounds and I think, becoming a slightly better rapper. Late Registration is just as good as its predecessor. Kanye isn’t quite as versatile on LR but he is a much bigger force in the rap game this time around.

2006- Non Album Year
Rapper Rating: 87

Graduation
2007
Top Song- Stronger, Good Life, Can’t Tell Me Nothing, Big Brother, Flashing Lights
Album Score: Lyrics-4.6 , Beats-4.5 = 4.55
Rapper Score: F-88 , V-92 , R-93 , CA-79
Rapper Rating: 88
C: Kanye struck fire not once, not twice, but three times. Graduation is a great album, even if it’s the lesser of his first 3 albums. As a rapper Kanye’s flow improved, and he became one of the top rappers easily in 2007. This album stands as one of my favorites.

808’s and Heartbreak
2008
Top Songs-Heartless, Love Lockdown, Coldest Winter, Amazing
Album Score: Lyrics-3.4 , Beats-4.2= 3.8
Rapper Score: F-78 , V-90, R-84 , CA-75
Rapper Rating: 81.75
C: 808’s isn’t really a rap rap album, but it is effective.  The album is emotionally sappy. The lyrics are right above average, but the beats are still very good. Kanye took a lot of criticism for this work ,and I feel he lost some of his relevancy but not a whole lot.

2009-Non Album Year
Rapper Rating: +3 =84.75
C: Kanye had some good guest spots during 09’ which included songs with Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, and Rick Ross, and Drake.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
2010
Top Songs- Power, All of the Lights, Dark Fantasy, Runaway, So Appalled
Album Score: Lyrics-4.8 , Beats-5 = 4.9
RS: F-91, V-98, R-93, CA-94
RR: 94
C: Kanye really didn’t leave much to be desired with his 5th album. This album is incredibly creative and lyrically great as well. It propelled Mr. West as one of rap’s elite, or perhaps you can say it made sure he’ll stay there.

2011-Watch The Throne(w/Jay-z)
Top Songs- N*ggas in Paris, Otis, No Chruch in the Wild, Murder to Excellence
Album Score: Lyrics-4.2, Beats-4.3 = 4.25
Rapper Rating: -2= 92
C: Jay-z and Kanye’s WTT album is good. The album features some really cool beats and some interesting song concepts. I don’t feel either rapper outshined one another on this album.

2012-Cruel Summer (w/G.O.O.D. Music)
T S: New God Flow, Mercy, Clique, Cold
Album Score: Lyrics- 4.1, Beats-4.5 = 4.3
Rapper Rating: No Change= 92
C: Cruel Summer is a G.O.O.D. Music showcase. It also featured Big Sean, Jay-z, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, The-Dream, R.Kelly, Teyana Taylor, Raekwon, Common, Jadakiss, and Cyhi The Prynce. The album is a tad bit better than WTT w/ Jay-z.

Average Album Score: Albums 1 to # (sum/7)= (31/7)= 4.4
Non Album Year(s) Overall Score: N.A.Y.R/number of years=87+ 84.75/2 = 86
Rapper’s Overall Rating: 86+(Rapper Scores)= 89

Final Rapper Comments: Kanye’s overall score is very impressive. 89/100 is borderline elite. His career speaks for itself at this point. Not to mention all the production he’s done.

My Top Rappers of All Time List

30) Rick Ross (7.7) Essential Album: Teflon Don Starting off the list is Ricky Rossay. Ross has great delivery and a lot of good albums. He scores really high in the versatility category. Ross’s pen game has definitely gotten better from when he debuted in 2006 with Port of Miami. Ross’s biggest flaws were his storytelling and impact. Otherwise solid MC.     29) Young Jeezy (7.8) Essential Album: The Recession Another dirty south MC. Jeezy is one of my favorite rappers. He has a lot of good albums with no real duds. He does have the best ad libs in the game. His collaboration and versatility are high. He really brings the heat on his features. Storytelling and Impact weren’t that high but hey; hes tied with the next rapper.   28) Nicki Minaj (7.8) EA: The Pinkprint Arguably the most dominant female rapper of all time. Nicki really shines when features on others tracks. She usually steals the show like on Kanye West’s “Monster” song. She’s also really versatile; able to sing also and

My Favorite R&B Albums (as 2023 list)

Here are my favorite R&B albums. I'm not gonna do the countdown....I'm just going to list them. The last time I did a list like this was 2013. 1.       Rihanna-Good Girl Gone Bad- As her best album and the album that made her a star…it’s only right that as my favorite singer Rihanna takes the title. GGGB isn’t a perfect album but I love it. There’s a little something for everyone here. The smooth “Lemme Get That”, the party anthem “Don’t Stop the Music”, and the jam “Umbrella” featuring Jay-Z. “Hate that I love You” featuring Ne-Yo is really good too. This album is just always a blast to listen to. 2.       Amerie-In Love & War- When I made this list about 10 years ago, this was the number one album. I love this album so much. I was considering her “Because I Love it” album for this list too, but I don’t really go back to that one that much. This album is just a flamethrower of R&B execution. That first half is great with songs like : “Heard Em All”, “Why R U”, and

My Favorite Rap Albums (As of 2024) List

1.       Kanye West-Graduation -Coming in at number one we have Kanye’s 3 rd  album. Sure it’s not his best or flashiest but damnit I love it so much. Listening to this album just gives me so much joy honestly. “Champion” is a great song, then there’s a fan favorite pick “I Wonder”. I do think the lyrically dense “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” is the best track. Who could forget the smooth “Flashing Lights”. It really amazing that Kanye was able to create another great soundscape that sounded very different than College Dropout and Late Registration. Honestly this album isn’t my favorite by leaps and bounds over the top 10; but its certainly still my favorite rap album. 2.       Ludacris-Word of Mouf- Coming in at number 2 is Ludacris. I think this album is his best while others may say Release Therapy or Chicken & Beer. Fun fact this was the first album I ever bought. Sure there’s some filler…but this album has a lot of Ludacris’s best tracks on it. There’s “Rollout”, “Move Bitch”, “Area
